Focal 936 having a “cold midrange” might be the new funniest thing I’ve ever read on here. If anything, the mids are a little recessed and congested. Zero sign of them being cold.Nope. It was a dedicated and well-treated listening room. Driving amps were Devialet Expert Pro and Parasound Halo.
IF you have even heard them, you might have heard them in the worst room placement imaginable
"Cold" should not be confused with "bright" or "forward," which I consider different traits. I'd say the forwardness of the Focals was fairly neutral. Vocals had about the same depth as accompanying instruments. Actually, their soundstage on the whole was rather 2-dimensional, especially compared to the Maggies.
With the "cold" remark, I was mostly referring to how they imparted a somewhat clinical character on everything they played. I liken it to lighting. Both fluorescent and incandescent bulbs can be either dim or bright, but the former usually imparts a cold feel compared to the latter. It's easier for most folks to relax with incandescent lighting. The Focal midrange is like the fluorescent bulb of audio. Hope that makes more sense.
