Add cartridge to current lineup

I currently have a digitally based system: Innuos Zen Mk3, Lampizator Golden Atlantic TRP, First Sound Paramount preamp, Threshold SA/1 monos and Magnepan 20.7s.  Main preamp is out of system now and may have to be repaired (separate thread), so I figured it may be a good time to try some analog components I purchased a while ago before focusing on digital.

I have never done analog before, but have a Rega P3-24 table with separate PSU (but no cartridge), Hagerman Trumpet preamp (tall boy with 8 tubes on top) and a NIB PS Audio GCPH preamp.  This equipment has essentially been boxed up for a long time and I realize may not be well matched.  Will primarily be listening to jazz (Miles, Metheny, Jarrett, etc.).  Any cartridge recommendations that will work well with my existing equipment or open to potentially selling component(s) and funding a better starting point.  Thanks for your time and assistance.

The Trumpet is quite good. I've heard one mod'd with high end caps and it was very compelling. 12ax7 are spendy to get the good ones is the only bummer...

The P3-24 is a fine table but really not going to get you there (imho and given the level of your system). It can be a fine way to get your feet wet but don't over do it as far as carts go.
I'm wondering why so many Rega users asking questions of audiogon, almost in every 2nd post it's about Rega turntable and compatible cartridge (or Pro-Ject turntable and same question) ?

Just curious who promote them so hard so people buying only Rega and Project belt drives?

You think there's some reason other than there's just so many of them out there?
Dear @dawkimi :  Great 20.7 speakers and a lovely SA-1 that were my dream amplifiers in those times but I never had the kind of money to buy it.

Look. as you I'm a MUSIC lover and even that I own 6k+ LPs today the digital alternative is superior one to analog especially with the kind of analog rig you own. You can try it if you want it but if I was you ( that I don't. ) I will up grade that system adding a pair of self powered true subwoofers wired/connected in stereo fashion where those Maggies will run from 80hz ( high pass filter frequency. ) and up.

In that new room/system set-up the IMD of the 20.7's and THD of the whole system will goes way down and the overall system will shines as never before when you liberate the low bass range from the Maggies and this low bass range hadled by the specialist in that specific bass frequency range that are subwoofersl

Even that Magnepan does not specified the low bass crossover in the 20.7 " things " are that that appears that crossover filter it's around 400hz, to high.

No problem with blend subs with planar speakers and you can't lost nothing because you can always return to your original set up and in the other side you can " win " a lot of quality overall system level performance.

Regards and enjoy the MUSIC NOT DISTORTIONS,
R.
The Trumpet would be my choice over the GCPH, if it has any linestage capability; I cannot recall for sure.  Find yourself a nice high output MM or MI cartridge, and you will have a nice vinyl rig.  I am rather surprised Chakster has not already posted to list his favorite vintage choices, many of which are rare on the modern market and even rarer to find them in excellent condition.  So, I would start with something you can buy new, maybe at a discount during the current economic crisis.  Ortofon makes some nice ones, e.g., the 2M Black.  So do many others.
Wow, a Trumpet for a 1st vinyl setup is pretty snazzy! I used to have one, really liked it. I also had a GCPH. The Trumpet is better for sure, but you'll need to add a Step-Up Transformer or Hagerman's Piccolo headamp in order to run an MC cartridge through it.

The Trumpet I had was on the warm side, so a wide range of neutral to slight-bright cartridges will match very well with it. Also sounded great with Koetsu, but very lush!
An Audio Technica VM95c or e would seem a good enough place to start and won’t strain the budget.
