I like everything boxer12 suggested. Also, Hot Tuna--Live at the New Orleans House DeLucia/McLaughlin/DiMeola--Passion, Grace and Fire Shakti--A Handful of Beauty Chieftains--Chieftains 9 Tony Rice--Cold on the Shoulder

I can't believe it - someone else likes Handful of Beauty too. Composition called 'India' is a masterpeace and another long cut on side B is close to it. Also: Dead Can Dance - Into the Labyrinth Dead Can Dance - Toward the Within Al Di Meola - Cielo e Terra Paco de Lucia - Siroco ( analog recording/digital mastering, sounds closer to digital to my ear but it is his best album ). John McLaughlin Trio - Live at Royal Festival Hall ( digital ). |
Passion Grace&Fire is spectacular, all digital though. Get original Japanese pressing, I saw a few on ebay and discogs. The same for the Shakti - good analog recording and mastering. Cielo e Terra - American or Canadian first run ( thicker vinyl ) is good. German, Dutch - NOT DMM - are good. Japanese is best, hard to find, I saw one on Discogs for $50 from Canada. Dead Can Dance - original UK, I didn't try any reissues. Siroco - Japanese best, saw one on Discogs from Spain, German good. |
These are masterpieces: The Incredible String Band: The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter Wee Tam Big Huge Three recordings by the great British psychedelic folk band!!! Not to be missed!

my speakers are so perfect when i play acoustic music, they sound so lifelike. energy rc-70’s. other speakers i have are nowhere near their sound/accuracy/tone/depth.
csn&y j denver donovan cat stevens yes melanie joan baez joni mitchell
all sound so sweeet |
Also... If you like jam bands, Widespread Panic's Live Wood is completely acoustic & very good. |
Most Bluegrass music is all acoustic, and generally better recorded than Rock ta boot. Look for Chris Hillman’s (bass player in The Byrds, but he was in Bluegrass group The Hillmen prior to that) albums on Sugar Hill. For incredible live recordings of Church choirs, look for Bob Fulton’s recordings on the Ark label (out of Minnesota in the 1970’s)---astoundingly lifelike, every individual, delicate voice clearly audible. His recordings also contain some of the most massive pipe organ sounds I've ever heard. Speakers (or subs) capable of reproducing the bottom octave definitely required! |
Conemporary folk music on the peerless Stockfish label. Just buy their first Closer To The Music sampler SACD. A real "You are There" or in some cases "They are with you" experience.

Pretty much everything in my collection...if you are in the northeast, PM me and you can come over. Hundreds of good examples...I focus on the music first vs the recordings, but look at these artists: Lyle Lovett Eddie from Ohio Eva Cassidy Emmy-Lou Harris Will the Circle be unbroken 1, 2, 3 Anything by Mark O'Connor. Classically trained violinist with very strong jazz and bluegrass crossover. Skip. Hop and Wobble David Grisman (if bluegrass/jazz fusion is not your thing, try Grisman and Kobialka- Common Chord) Vienna Teng Wailing Jenny's Some of Keb Mo's stuff is acoustic, Jorma Kaukonen (guitar half of Hot Tuna) has a solo acoustic blues album. Richard Thompson for sure.
