Requesting opinions about 4 specific amplifiers
My listening experience with SimAudio has made me think of them as a neutral amp. if the Dynaudio Confidence 20 sounds good with the SimAudio then I would try it with the much cheaper Benchmark AHB2 stereo amp. The AHB2 monos are not likely needed...
RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis
Reviews are starting to come in. RAAL 1995 Magna & Immanis review | Darko.Audio If you question why nobody else offers over-ear ribbons if they are this spectacular, you’re not alone. I wondered, too. Here’s what I know. Aleksandar will cel...
Sound Impressions - Benchmark HPA4/LA4 in use with a quality vinyl rig?
Send Rory Rail an email at Benchmark and ask him. He may be able to point you to some examples of such use cases.
Listening Room
If you are a ROON user or have something similar. I use this in my office and it was a revelation compared to analog BALANCE control. Audiogon Discussion Forum If you want something as good as a great 2-channel but do not want to deal with the r...
Is there anything other than a Benchmark DAC?
Since you are going through a tube preamp my suggestion is the Schitt Yggi+ MIB. For the longest time I thought Schitt was mid-fi gear. However, after buying the Jotehuim R headphone amp for my RAAL headphones I started to try out more of their ge...
KEF LS50 Meta
The KEF LS50 Meta are great speakers in a smallish room with the KEF KC62 sub. I used them with the Benchmark AHB2 amp, CODA #8 amp, and KRELL Duo 175XD. They were all great combos. I gave my LS50 Meta to my nephew and got the cheaper Magnepan LR...
Is there anything other than a Benchmark DAC?
I have a Benchmark DAC3B. It is a bit too hot on top if you have a very neutral system. However, with a slightly warmer system it is very good. The soundstage is not the biggest but that is a first world problem for me. I will be keeping the DAC l...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
@markmuse the high current #16 is the best amp I have tried on the LRS+. However, a $16k amp on a $1k speaker is a bit of a misalignment of funds. The Sanders Magtech is more than powerful enough to drive the LRS+ and sounds almost as good. Roger ...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
My LRS+ would likely not sound great with the S5.5. I spoke to Doug at CODA about using the S5.5 with the Yamaha NS5000 or the harder to drive Magnepan LRS+ and after my comment that powerful amps sounded the best on these 2 speakers, he said the ...
Desktop preamp DAC for Focal Shape 50
I would look in the Schitt product lineup. I have a Schitt Mjolnir V3 that sounds really good. I use it as a second preamp in my Livingroom, but it is perfect on a desktop (no remote). Schiit Audio: Audio Products Designed and Built in Texas and ...
Nagra streamer in Munich 2024
If you are asking about the $5K Nagra streamer then I think the USB is for both Nagra and USB compatible DACs. Of course, the PLINK (or whatever NAGRA calls it) would be better for Nagra and PBD DACs. I sold my PBD Stream-IF to some smart guy who...
Need a modern Class A monoblock, preferably half or compact chassis
I have not heard the Atmasphere and AGD GAN amps but have owned 3 other GAN amps that I liked a lot. Only issue for me was the limited power on the 2 amps I owned. My speakers are not easy to drive. The third amp, the PeachTree GAN400, had enough ...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
@kairosman How did the Bryston amps compare against the CODA gear you owned? I have owned the CSiB and the #8 V1. I have owned older Bryton but not the cubed lineup.   Bryston 4B3 & 14B3  CODA CSiB & #8 V1 & S5.5
Streamers under $1500
The new Auralic S1 streamer looks very interesting to me. It costs $1999 with the internal power supply and $2999 with the external power supply. I would go for the 1999 one. The power supply made no difference in my 2 Sonore OpticalRendu’s.
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
@tmac1700 The System 150 is composed of 2 parts. One regulates voltage (I think) and looks like the 07x preamp. The other section looks like the CODA #16. You would need to use a preamp or DAC with volume control into one of the 2 pieces. I think ...
