Streamer, no DAC please? @larsend A Sonore OpticalRendu can be bought for under $1500. Infact, I got a used opticalRendu a few months ago for $200 + an EtherGen. I was going to give the EtherGen to recycling so I was very happy. I have 3 OpticalRendu's. This top end gear...
Streamer, no DAC please? @xwfalcon Congrats getting to the uber top end with your digital setup. A first A'gon post too. When I made my fist post my system was a work in progress and not very good.
Roberta Flack Listening to her today on my big rig gives me goosebumps. Incredible talent.
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend @verdantaudio I have 3 streamers that do fibre and I use 3 network switches ranging in price from $200, $75, $49. They all seem to sound the same to me. What I do is use the Sonore SPF connections since it makes compatibility easy. https://www.s...
DAC Shootout Starts This Weekend I think the Linn supports fibre optic like the Lumin X1. If so, have you tried that input? I have heard this unit before in an all-Linn system. Maybe I am wrong about the fibre since I do not see it listed. Next-generation Klimax DSM | Network Mus...
Streamer, no DAC please? The new DAC less LUMIN U2 streamer that is the old X1 minus the DAC section is something that I would get if I needed another streamer. I have 3 Sonore OpticalRendu's streamers so I am good on the streaming front. However, when (or if) one of them...
Why are DAC's so much more expensive than transports? The only evolution in DACs that I see (and really interested in) are FPGA implementations. A different tube, chip, casework, etc are not that groundbreaking with DACs.
Are Headphones Fit for Serious Music Listening? @devinplombier I have used a sub with the SR1a. At one time I had my KEF KC62 sub on a bar stool near my ear level. I was just trying the sub on the stool for kicks. I now have the sub on the floor. Office System 2 | Virtual Listening Room The K...
Spatial Audio Raven Preamp My last question on the Raven Revelation preamp. Does it support the Balanced standard, AES48? I keep my amp far away from the gear. I also sold my Holo Serene preamp a few days ago (an excellent SS preamp) and now looking for a tube preamp to f...
Balanced vs RCA preamps I got 15-feet of XLR for 1 system between the preamp and amp. Though I am not sure if the Schitt Mjolnir v3 preamp and Schitt Wotan amp are AES48 compliant (I will ask today). My Benchmark HPA4 preamp and CODA #16 amp are AES48 compliant and have ...
Dusting gear and turntable My friend who makes and sells tube amps and other delicate gear uses a paint brush to dust his gear. I am now also following suite. My RAAl VM-1a tube amp for example is almost impossible to clean with most regular methods and a breeze with the so...
Kef blade 1 meta Mola Mola Class D amps are very old and expensive for no reason. Bruno P. is long gone and now at Purifi. They may have new Class D amps, but I am referring to the Bruno designed $16k amps. I bought my amp with the plans of getting the Blade 2 Me...
Are Headphones Fit for Serious Music Listening? I get the appreciation for the feeling of the waves of sound in my Livingroom system, and it is an incredible listening experience. However, my earphones are like 2-channel except for the waves of music hitting your body. Though, I do not have to ...
"The room can totally wreck, or make, a system" I am a 2-channel person first and foremost but getting the RAAL VM-1a tube amp and the RAAL SR1a earphones gave me 2-channel minus the room. It is an incredible listen and each night when I turn my 2-channel systems off and put the earphones on fo...
DAC break-in question My Schitt Yggi+ OG needed 1 month of non-stop play before it sounded like it does today. I was disappointed the DAC at first. I did turn the amp off when streaming overnight. |
