KEF's meta material gimmick?
The LS50 Meta and the KC62 sub in a small room is reference level sound. At least with the gear I have hooked up to them. Benchmark LA4 preamp + AHB2 amp | Lumin X1 DAC. I am getting the Blade 2 Meta for a big room and that should be incredible.
Fantasy or reality? Inexpensive solid state preamps that get you 80% there?
@mr_bill Try the SYS for $50 it was better than the volume out of my Sansui TU9900 and Accuphase T-101 tuners. Those tuners sound better FIXED volume.

@hilde45 The pre90 may get you happiness with the right amp. The Stereophile reviewer uses it with 2 Benchmark AHB2 and KEF Blade 2 Meta. As I said before the AHB2 is an amp that works with the pre90. Put a CODA #8 on it and it is a disaster. A lo...
KEF's meta material gimmick?
The LS50 Meta is much better than the older LS50 non-Meta. A serious improvement in my system. So much so that I cancelled plans to buy another monitor that cost 6X more. The LS50 Meta and a KEF KC62 sub are my all-done speakers for my small offic...

Only issue with the pre90 is that it plays very loud with some amps. The only amps where the volume could move to more than 9AM was the Benchmark AHB2, Parasound A21+, and 1 more that I forgot. All 3 had gain adjustment on the amp. I tried a few o...

The Benchmark LA4 gets me to 100% of reference levels. I sold the following preamps in the last 2 years and kept the LA4: Coda 07x Topping pre90 Schitt Freya+ I liked all 3 above to some degree but had complaints with some aspect of their ...
Quicksilver v4 monos vs CODA Continuum No. 8 Version 1.
I have not heard the QuickSilver monos but at one time owned the CODA #8 and now own the CODA #16. For the price of the #8 I would get this instead. Krell Duo 300 XD Like new Dealer Ad - US Audio Mart I owned 2 of these Duo XD amps before and li...
Peachtree GaN 1 Beta
Nice, that is my amp that the mods are going into. Looking forward to getting this amp back. Initially, I will be streaming from a Lumin X1 SPDIF into the GAN1.
8-10k budget suggestions please
@laaudionut The new Duo XD amps are warm and very smooth. @asmithkash My Krell K-300i integrated drove a difficult to drive Thiel CS3.7 nicely, not all the amps I tried it with drove them well. The Thiel should be more difficult to drive than th...
Thoughts on the Gustard X26
The Gustard X26 Pro is a slightly warm DAC that is not extremely detailed like some of my other ESS DACs. I used it with a bright and detailed headphone, and it was very good. I sold it to buy a Musetec 005 for about 2x the price. That DAC is smo...
Future DACs with Fibre Optical
A couple of other DACs that are fibre Optical are the MSB and Playback Designs units. I am thinking of cancelling my plans of buying an expensive amp and get a Playback Designs DAC instead. The designer of the PlayBack Designs DACs is an impressi...

What amps are out there that are Class A, 50 wpc into 8 ohms?
The CODA #16 (100 watts Class A, 150 watts total@8). The CODA is not much of a heater. Just warm to the touch. The KRELL Duo 175XD (175 watts Class A). Westminster Labs (100 watts Class A). These 2 use a biasing scheme. The KRELL runs cool, I exp...
Analyzing DACs
@verdantaudio That sounds interesting. If you are a dealer for that unit lest talk a bit more offline. I will send you a DM later.
