Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
I was in the same boat 5 years ago. I am off the boat now since I am DONE. I have two 2-channel systems that I love and a headphone system that is amazing. Here are some things I think are useful. Audiogon is very useful. I have not tried this ...
speakers for small room
An update on how to use RAAL phones. I sold my amazing RAAL VM-1a tube headphone amp because I needed money for an amp for the Magnepan LRS+. I had the new RAAL TI-1b 2-channel amp interface box ($800). I use that with the following: Schitt Yg...
Lumin Inside? The Audiolab 9000N Streamer, a Lumin in sheeps clothing?
The Sonore Optical Rendu is as good as the Lumin X1 as a streamer. They sound different and preferences will vary. A sort of chocolate vs vanilla comparison. Both are great when used with a fibre input.
speakers for small room
I was thinking of a KEF Reference 1 Meta for A 12 X 11 X 9 (+ 4-foot closet where I put a desk and monitors). I was also thinking of Magico A1, Vivid S12, Yamaha NS2000, and some other monitors also close to $10k. My room is treated with $700 of ...
DAC DIRECT IN TO AMPLIFIER OR TO PREAMPLIFIER
Only DAC direct to amp that was worth considering for me was the Lumin X1. It was almost as good as the volume  control on the Benchmark LA4. It has some gremlins at low volume, but still sounds good, and great in comparison to other DACs. The LA4...
Peachtree GaN 1 Beta
@singintheblues If you are willing to take a chance with the GAN1, send it to TweakAudio.com and let Ric make the GAN1 sound good ($500). In stock form it is just OK. You have an great piece of gear but you just have not heard it yet. A great fro...
SimAudio Moon Series versus Accuphase
Not going to consider the Moon North Collection? Though you should see some good prices on the older Moon line very soon.
Full range stand mounted speakers
If you have a room that is not too small, say 15 x 20 at a minimum. then I would recommend the Yamaha NS5000.  I bought the NS5000 due to safety concerns over the KEF Blade 2. It turned out to be a great choice. The NS5000 is hard to knock over, ...
Hiatus
I came to the conclusion that I love all 3 of my systems now, Livingroom, office, and RAAL phones. I am now done, done. The proof is in the last 2 photos. Taken before all were taken to the recycling centre. Office System | Virtual Listening Room...
Can you live with your current speaker until you die?
I have no choice now. I threw out my shipping boxes of all my gear. I better die before the gear gets old.
Help and opinions needed on pre-amp situation
I you are thinking of using your projector to listen to audio then consider the D.B0B. When my SACD/CD player died (Sony SCD-1) I bought the $799 D.BOB and I can now play CD and SACD disks using a $200 used Oppo SACD player. I take the HDMI output...
Help and opinions needed on pre-amp situation
I compared the LeedH volume control of the Lumin X1 (I owned it) with my Benchmark LA4. The LeedH volume control was almost as good as the LA4. The only place it failed, and this is likely unimportant, is at very low volume when you increase the v...
Aurender A20 or Lumin X1
ROON READY should have nothing to do with the processor. ROON READY is the ability to talk a particular protocol call RAAT. If Aurrender can be programmed with understanding of RAAT then it would be  a ROON READY endpoint.  The reason Aurrender h...
Benchmark AHB2 compared to Rogue Atlas Magnum III
I sold my AHB2 to raise cash to buy an amp for my Magnepan LRS+, a Magtech. That was a great move, but I do miss the sound of the AHB2 with an appropriate matching speaker. I have a speaker in my Livingroom that the AHB2 would work well with, the...
Aurender A20 or Lumin X1
ROON is the only way I roll. I am definitely a power user of ROON. So no interest in Aurrender (I have heard it). I prefer a $400 cheap computer to run my ROON core in a far off room away from my 3 ROON Endpoints. I use fibre optic to make any neg...
