Cloning an SSD for a Music Streamer
@stevenyc  Your manual explains how to backup and restore your music database (pp.38-41). Formatting your new drive is covered on p.62. Looks like you'll need an external USB drive with a larger capacity than the size of your music database.   ...
Audiophile Switch with Clock?
Please ignore the close minded folks! In other words - please ignore the sane voices in the hobby!
Audiophile Switch with Clock?
Audiophile Ethernet switches are a waste of money. There’s no logical reason why swapping one Ethernet switch for another would make a sonic difference. Think about it - if there was a difference, that means the data (and by that I mean only the ...
DAC league table
@louisesjpp  If you want to control the Marantz from your PC, see if there's a web-based interface to your component. This would be in the manual under 'web control function' or something similar. Usually you only have to type in the IP address o...
What can I do between the wall and my streamer/DAC?
@backwash If you’re not getting any dropouts, there’s no need to buy anything. As long as the DAC is getting the data intact (whether wired or wireless), there’s no improvement to be made. This is the beauty of digital data.
How to get DSD working in a networked (Roon) setup?
I just tried unchecking the 'DoP for Converter" option and it doesn't seem to do anything. I've got a DAC that only accepts DoP and with that unchecked it still showed DSD64 output.   Maybe with foobar, the T+A detects the PCM container. If the ...
How to get DSD working in a networked (Roon) setup?
Just noticed that in my foobar2000 setup in the Tools -> SACD section, there's a checkbox labeled 'DoP for Converter'. You might also want to try unchecking that to see if you get native DSD output without having to install DSD Transcoder.
How to get DSD working in a networked (Roon) setup?
If you’re using foobar2000, check on the following setting. Go to Preferences -> Tools -> SACD. Under ’Type’ does it show ’DSD’? If not, click on the ’Type’ dropdown and change it.   You can also follow these instructions to output native ...
How to get DSD working in a networked (Roon) setup?
I don't use Roon and don't own the 3100 HV, but here's a possible clue from Stereophile:   But to get that to work—to get native DSD data into the box—you'll need to use the USB connection and a data source that can run a Windows 10 driver—at a...
Enough noise reduction?
@holmz @erik_squires    I just received a reply from Diego Estan who was recently hired to measure the equipment under review for the SoundStage Network of web sites. I asked whether or not he used special power supplies for the equipment under ...
Enough noise reduction?
@holmz  I'm still doubtful a lab power supply is used. It just doesn't make any sense. A lab 'bench' power supply provides DC, not AC. Also, these components are consumer products meant to operate off of standard household power. If you want to m...
My audio system and streaming service are not yet on speaking terms. Help needed.
There are a couple of ways to add streaming to your Anthem / Paradigm setup. Unfortunately, the Anthem pre/pro doesn't have a USB input so you'll need a streamer or PC that has optical or coax digital outputs unless you want to buy a separate DAC....
Enough noise reduction?
We get the S/N+THD specs, and these assume ideal AC power. I highly doubt that Stereophile and ASR are using lab power supplies for their measurements.   ASR’s SNR measurement of the Ares II puts it at 120 dB using the balanced out, so excell...
Neutral Dac?
@schw06 From my personal experience, if you listen to DACs with excellent measurements and find them dry / bright, then there’s something else in your playback chain that’s causing this.   Judging from your past posts on speakers, you seem to ...
Mesh network versus a simple Wi-Fi extender
I have heard recommendations against a mesh network for audio, as if the connection switches from one node to another, there could be dropouts. I’ve got a mesh setup and the connections are stable, i.e. no roaming unless the signal drops below ...
