Oppo media control.
mConnect uses a different protocol called UPnP / DLNA so it should stream hi-res without a problem. I've used it with my Raspberry Pi and Mac based streamers before and it worked perfectly.   It won't control CD playback, that's true, but at lea...
Oppo media control.
If you have the MSB UMT and judging by the manual, it looks like your transport supports DLNA / UPnP. You can use mConnect Player HD - link - to stream Tidal from your iOS device to the transport. Just select your transport from the list after you...
USB DACs that outperforms OPPO 105D's internal DAC?
Most likely the best solution is to share your music using a protocol called UPnP. Here’s an overview of UPnP from Cambridge Audio - link. You also might read another term - DLNA - mentioned in the same sentence as UPnP. DLNA is a set of guidelin...
WiFi Streaming Versus An Ethernet Cable Connection
Wi-fi streaming works great. No complaints here.
Hidizs AP 80 Pro - Alternative to Laptop with long USB cable and Schiit DAC?
The WiiM Pro is a streamer. It looks like you found some listings on Reverb and eBay with good pricing. The only thing is if you buy used or off eBay and get a defective unit, it might be hard to return and get a replacement.   If you were to ge...
Hidizs AP 80 Pro - Alternative to Laptop with long USB cable and Schiit DAC?
Your Onkyo doesn’t seem to support LDAC Bluetooth codec, which means the Hidizs would need to use a lossy compression algorithm to send the audio to your receiver. Not exactly ideal.   There are two ways to cut down on the cord length. You can c...
Toslink
No problem.   Here’s a switcher I found on B&H ($119). Looks like it’s from a company in Oregon that specializes in making gear for the broadcast market.   https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1351618-REG/inday_da4x_r_spdif_4x1_digital_a...
Toslink
@mdrone Apologies - I missed that in your reply.   It looks like the Toslink and SPDIF inputs on the Madison are equivalent in terms of technical capability. I don’t see a way for you to connect the Bricasti M5 to the Madison via Toslink thoug...
Toslink
The Wattson has an Ethernet input. Why not connect it directly to the network?   Looks like it also supports AirPlay, Tidal Connect and UPnP. You might not need your current streamer with this DAC.
Toslink
@ghdprentice  AES/EBU was developed before SPDIF for professional use. SPDIF is a 'consumer-oriented' variant of AES.
Bryston Support
Wow - that was great customer service!
Toslink
Sometimes Toslink may not handle sample rates higher than 96 kHz. If the connection is iffy at a sample rate of 176.4 or 192 kHz, usually what happens is that the output will sporadically mute because synchronization is being lost between the stre...
Ethernet connection for best sound quality
A coaxial connection between a streamer and the Oppo is possible. Just make sure you use the coaxial input jack on the rear panel. I suggest using the USB input, however. It supports higher sampling rates and DSD (if you're interested in that form...
Flat frequency response
@cdc   The book you need to read is Sound Reproduction: The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms by Floyd E. Toole now in its third edition. It will answer a lot of your questions.
Ethernet connection for best sound quality
@joes44  I also forgot to mention that the UDP-205 can also function as a USB DAC. You can connect your PC directly to the Oppo using a USB cable. See p.20 in the user manual for details. Don't forget to change your audio output device to the UDP...
