questions about streaming source for a headphone amp
If this is for a desktop setup, then all you need is a USB DAC + headphone amp. JDS Labs makes great performing gear (Atom+ amp and DAC) for a reasonable amount of money. Currently I use a Benchmark DAC3 HGC with my PC and use foobar2000 to play t...
Mac vs streamer.
If you’re technically inclined, I’d go with a Raspberry Pi loaded with whatever OS that’s specialized for music playback (e.g. Volumio, moOde, piCorePlayer, etc.). You’ll save money and it’s a fun project.Currently using my Pi w/ Volumio and I can...
Just what percentage of digital artifacts removed
Here’s a practical way of testing whether or not some of these digital artifacts are audible. Go to to the Audiocheck website. Click on ’Sound Tests’. Look for the ’Aliasing’ test and the ’Dynamic Range, Dithering, and Noise Shaping’ test.If you w...
Upgrade from Schiit Bifrost 2?
Chord Qutest would be a good choice.
any suggestions on what to replace Bluesound Node 2i with
@hilde45Some say that there are implementations of the Raspberry Pi that are better than other options. The Raspberry Pi 4’s wired Ethernet doesn’t share the USB bus like in the previous versions. Otherwise, if you used a USB DAC with a Pi 3 B+ and...
Stacking gear no more rack space does it affect sound quality
If you don’t hear any noise at the listening position when everything is turned on with no music playing and the volume knob at the usual position, then you’re ok.
100 watts enough?
@unsound @charles1dad Just for reference, here is a link to loudness levels that studios are recommended to calibrate to when monitoring. The relevant table is ’Room size vs Reference Level’ all the way at the bottom. Note that for the largest spa...
100 watts enough?
You can also plug in your numbers into this calculator (Amplifier Power Required):https://www.crownaudio.com/en/tools/calculatorsIt would be more accurate if you have an SPL meter but I reckon that most people self-select volume at around 71-74 dB...
Digital USB streamer general question - Oppo 105D
The iFi looks nice - great price too. I think the key is to get a device that has TIDAL Connect. Otherwise you're fighting an uphill battle to get it to work reliably.
Digital USB streamer general question - Oppo 105D
A Bluesound Node ($549) might be a good fit.Personally, I use a Raspberry Pi for streaming, but it can require some technical knowledge to get up and running. You can put together a streamer for less than $100 though.Caveat - I’m not a TIDAL subsc...
Oppo 205 DAC
It really depends on the implementation. Some R-2R DACs can sound rolled off because they're non-oversampling and lack the reconstruction filter as well. These will naturally have a droop in the treble region. Having said that, what really matters...
Digital system upgrades
I think you already have a very good digital setup. I’ve heard the Qutest and it’s an excellent DAC. I’m not sure swapping out the streamer or inserting a reclocker would net you anything since the DAC’s USB interface measures well. If you’re dead...

Dell XPS connection to Oppo 205
This might work, may take some debugging.Make sure the UDP-205 is connected to your LAN.Download the latest release below. https://github.com/dheijl/swyh-rsMake sure you let it through the Windows Firewall (dialog box should pop up).Just tried it ...
Is usb reclocking necessary?
@kijanki The QB-9 USB interface is galvanically isolated from the DAC section so ground pollution shouldn't be a concern.Seriously, Ayre put a lot of thought into the implementation.***Yeah, you don't get clock anomalies with analog - but you *do*...
