Is usb reclocking necessary? I think the Ayre's USB interface is powered by the DAC power supply so it doesn't draw anything from the computer. A filter for the power lines would be useless.
Buying used: how old is too old? Recently bought a pair of Revel Ultima Studios for what I consider to be a good deal. Luckily the guy was local so I could hear them before I bought. They are absolutely fantastic sounding. Good thing too, since I'm pretty sure I won't be able to g...
How many of you are digital only systems? No vinyl here. I seriously considered adding a turntable, but decided it wasn't worth the additional hassle and expense.I've tinkered with a Raspberry Pi as a streamer (great for playing YouTube music from my phone over the stereo) and built some ...
Is usb reclocking necessary? Ayre knows how to engineer the USB interface properly - they were one of the first, if not *the* first to implement an asynchronous USB interface.I owned a QB-9 DSD for a few years and never felt there was a need for a USB reclocker / filter / etc.
Integrated/Power Amp for Vienna Acoustics Mahler I would try this - drive your Hypex NCore amps with the Weiss directly and use Filter A (sharp roll-off).This will give you an ultra clean signal path and will let you know if it is the amp that's producing the harshness you hear.
Streamer question I recommend a Raspberry Pi. It's what I use in my system with my Benchmark DAC3. Sounds great!
Possible issues with Marantz CD player I doubt it's the amp since the turntable sounds ok but swapping it out is a good idea to narrow down where the problem truly lies.
Possible issues with Marantz CD player Sounds like the drive mechanism is going bad if it happens to all your discs and at random times.I've only had one bad disc in the 30+ years I've been buying them and it had the problem you just described, except it would always fail on one partic...
Revel Salon 2 vs Vandersteen 5a Carbon I owned the 3A Signatures and recently sold them to fund the purchase of a used pair of Revel Ultima Studios. I've also listened to the Treo and Quatro CTs though.Soundwise, I think you'll be happy with either. The Vandys will need a lot more atten...
Pono and the Ayre Codex I think when I first listened to the Codex with a pair of HD 600's in balanced mode can be counted as a highlight. I certainly felt that the Pono didn't give up much ground vs. the Codex in overall enjoyment, though it's much more portable.
Pono and the Ayre Codex I think the Pono and Codex have similar 'guts'. They sounded pretty much indistinguishable when I had a chance to listen back-to-back.Having said that, when I had the opportunity to compare the Codex to the C-5xeMP and the QB-9 DSD, both of which ...
Question About DACs @georgehifi - I’m afraid you need to learn more about DACs. The only DAC that would play the bits back as they’re stored on a compact disc is an R-2R with no oversampling. None of the Schiit DACs fit this description for 16 bit / 44.1 kHz program ...
networking wire The different categories of cable depend on the type of Ethernet network you'll be setting up - Cat 5e / 6 for 100 Mb / 1 Gb, Cat 6a for 10 Gb.I'd consider Blue Jeans Cables for reliable network cables if you need a long run.
I want to dump my Oppo; but... I would actually sell the C-5xeMP and look for a used DX-5 DSD. It can play music off hard drives and serve as a USB DAC for a computer in addition to handling your physical media - CD, SACD, DVD, Blu-ray, etc.EDIT - I should add that it seems for...
Popping sound on SACDs from Ayre I have that player too and I experience a small single pop when first playing an SACD. As far as I can tell, it's normal. I think it's because the player is switching in the SACD decoder. |
