Topping Dacs D-50, DX-7, and DX7s The Topping DACs seem to measure much better (with stock power supplies, no less) than the Schiit Bifrost and Yggdrasil. At least you’ll have a better chance at getting a properly engineered product.I’m certainly tempted. If I ever have a need for...
DAC's....Ayre versus PS Audio You can get the QX-5 Twenty for less by eliminating unused inputs. It won't get you to the price level of the DirectStream, but it helps.QX-5 Base - S/PDIF + AES/EBU $6,950 QX-5 USB - USB + S/PDIF + AES/EBU $7,650 QX-...
DACs that include ESS 9038 Sabre or ESS 9028 DAC ship Ayre QX-5 Twenty (SPDIF+AES/EBU or SPDIF+AES/EBU+USB versions)
New dac I’ve got a pair of 3A Sigs. I’ve found that most bass problems stem from speaker / listening position placement rather than component issues.I used the ’odd dimensions’ method from the manual. Have you tried moving them around using this procedure...
DAC recommendations for CDs in 2-channel system Huh, those measurements of the Bifrost MB are pretty eye opening. I’ve listened to it during headphone meets and found it to sound a little steely and didn’t quite like it. I’ve also listened to the BorderPatrol DAC connected to a disc transport a...
Delta Sigma DACs I’d send another email to Cambridge tech support asking whether the player is actually reading the Redbook layer or is converting the SACD data stream to PCM format. Judging by the CXU manual, the menus’ appearance is very similar to my Oppo BDP-1...
Ayre QB-9...listening impressions Yep, the QB-9 DSD is a classic. Mine isn't leaving my system any time soon.
D to A converter purchase.... Are you referring to the Yggdrasil or Gungnir? I think you are referring to the Yggdrasil, as I do not read the "preserving" text elsewhere.See the first question of the Gungnir FAQ (copied below):Wait a whole entire second there, buddy! Are you s...
D to A converter purchase.... This thread discussion is beginning to read a lot like this one :)https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/schiit-yggdrasil-21-bit/post?highlight=2097152&postid=148...Yeah... ha! However there is an important point to reiterate here. Using two D...
D to A converter purchase.... Yes, I realize the gain in signal-to-noise ratio when you combine the converter chips that way, but it's still an 18-bit part and will only decode 18 bits worth of data.
D to A converter purchase.... No experience with Wadia but have heard the Gungnir Multibit. Note that the Gungnir Multibit is effectively an 18-bit DAC, so despite the ad copy about 'bit perfection' it won't decode those last few digits if you have hi-res files. The Schiit hous...
Ayre QB9 or Schiit Gungir Multibit I also vote for the QB-9. I've listened to the Gungnir Multibit on multiple occasions and own the QB-9 DSD. The Ayre sounds more polished and refined IMHO. I've also noticed that I don't need any additional reclockers / etc. in the playback chain ...
Which should I choose? I would opt for the BDP-203. I had the same dilemma when choosing between the BDP-103 and 105. I mainly use the 103 for movies and the Ayre C-5xeMP for music. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything with the cheaper model.
Ayre QB-9 or Metrum Hex? I own the QB-9 DSD and have listened to the Metrum Pavane. If the Hex sounds close to the Pavane, then I didn’t really hear anything that made me want to part with the Ayre. However, the Hex is more flexible with regards to digital inputs. One thin...
Richard Clark $10,000 Amplifier Challenge - Why Couldn't Anyone Pass this Test?? @geoffkait - Ah... didn't see any links, so wasn't sure that's what you were posting about.I think the conclusions were pretty clear, though: new violins sound quite good. |
