Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
As was said earlier if a DAC with poor test results sounded good then that's ASR completely discredited.   @lordmelton This is completely missing the point. If something measures poorly but has no audible problems, then maybe the problem is b...
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
If you want to enjoy music, the key is to audition in your home, in your listening environment and with your set of gears and ears. There is no substitute, no matter what.   I agree that listening is important. For example, Revel Speakers uses...
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC
I’m genuinely curious why there are some audiophiles that don’t like to hold companies to account for their marketing?
Bryston Bda3 vs 3.14 Streamer
If you can swap the BDA-3 for the BDA-3.14 for only the difference in price, then it might be worth it to get a one box solution.
Streamer on Office WiFi?
@zm, the only thing you gain by installing Kodi on the MacBook would be the ability to control playback and stream from a phone or tablet. If you're going to be at your computer anyway, then there's no need for Kodi.
Streamer on Office WiFi?
Not sure if this is your use case, but if you intend to stream from your phone, the MacBook can easily be a UPnP renderer - basically doing what you bought the Audiolab for. I use Kodi with a Mac mini and I can stream from my Android phone to it u...
DAC / USB outputs in MONO? HELP
Maybe it’s a Windows setting. Windows lets you convert stereo sound into a single channel so you can hear everything, even if you’re using just one headphone. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Ease of Access > Audio, and the...
Headphone amp/dac connection
Use USB.   The headphone jack is already amplifying the signal. Better to let the Predator do that from the digital data directly.
Internal DAC quality vs external DAC's
The crazy part to all this is, each devise I've listed all have something I want. None with all the features I'd like, go figure. I think that's the main challenge right now. Hopefully you find something that fits your needs. Just remembered t...
Internal DAC quality vs external DAC's
There's no good reason a DAC can't be part of an integrated box.   Technically speaking, you can get superb measured performance from separates that beats any of the integrated boxes you listed for around the same price (e.g. Topping D90SE + LA9...
How can I establish a reference level?
@mikewerner  Very interesting. i found that when I optimized my playback chain with low noise, low distortion gear (Benchmark DAC3 B + HPA4 + AHB2), I'm able to listen without fatigue at higher volume levels and for as long as I want.   I've ow...
In search for an AMP for my GSP500
Specs wise, I think they’re in the same ballpark except for output impedance where the ASUS is much higher. Based on that, it’s probably a better choice to go with the Hel as the frequency response won’t be affected very much by your headphone’s i...
In search for an AMP for my GSP500
The Hel is a DAC + headphone amp. The ASUS ad copy mentions 600 ohms to indicate it can drive high impedance headphones such as the Sennheiser HD 600 / 650 which are 300 ohms nominal.   The GSP 500 are 32 ohms nominal impedance, so they don't ne...
In search for an AMP for my GSP500
If you don't need any of the features of the DLX (one touch presets) or the STX II (7.1 output), my suggestion is to stay with the Hel.
Power Supply Chord Mojo Question
If it's pulling power from the battery at all times, then there will be no difference.
