At What Age Does An Audiophile Buy His Last Amp? I saw the late, great Don Ho at his peak in the mid 60s with his brilliant back-up band The Aliis at the original Dukes (my mother took me...she was a fan)...giant palm frond fans in the ceiling. That dude was great...met him a couple of times ove...
When a Reviewer "likes" something What's wrong with canned worms? The ebb and flow of free minded discussion shouldn't be restricted by topic or context...it forces me to pay attention, sit up straight, and spit out my gum. Nobody wants that...
When a Reviewer "likes" something I think it's clear that most tube amp owners started with SS amps, and switched to tubes as they liked the SOUND of them, and maybe switched back...or not. Raul assumes these people need to be alerted to some Technology Update before they foolishl...
At What Age Does An Audiophile Buy His Last Amp? That band was named Cauldren, didn't last (less than a year) but we did have FUN...Mitch Mitchell jammed with us at a club gig once (bands stayed in Hawaii for weeks sometimes as an "in between tours" rest).
At What Age Does An Audiophile Buy His Last Amp? Wrong. 1950 (late). I was 18 most of 1969 playing music in Honolulu, opened for Led Zeppelin and met Jimi Hendrix. Take THAT you young whippersnappers!*cough*now where's that blood pressure medicine...wheel me into the light...damn kid forgets to ...
When a Reviewer "likes" something Any poster claiming "golden ears" is simply silly, and cloaking insulting and weirdly condescending opinion in "factoids" and phony courtesy is merely tedious.
When a Reviewer "likes" something Since English might not be Raul's first language, I'd like to recommend two words he might consider becoming familiar with: Redundancy, and brevity. I'm a giver...
I heard Emotive bought Bob Carvers tube company My Chinese/Maryland USA Jolida tube amp cost around 1/8th the price of the closest Carver, performs beautifully, and is VERY well made...and since the Chinese manufacturing cat is "way out of the bag" at this point (who made the computers we're ty...
What is a better route, tube or SS preamp? I've bought NOS tubes (and simply "new") from "thetubestore" where they have a no nonsense warranty, and are right on top of any issues...classy bunch there.
I heard Emotive bought Bob Carvers tube company If it makes Bob's tube stuff more affordable, it's a good thing.
At What Age Does An Audiophile Buy His Last Amp? Being satisfied with what you have isn't age specific any more than wanting something else is. Not growing intellectually or desiring anything new isn't a sign of age, it's a sign of laziness and a lack of intellectual curiosity that's merely sad....
What's your view on blind testing? Having a group of sophisticated listeners blind test gear over weeks is the way to go. However feeding, housing, bathing, and generally putting up with them during the test period can be challenging, and you merely end up with a group of grumpy, w...
Entry-level speaker cables A fave cable score is a used but new condition AQ VDM5 solid silver S/PDIF cable I bought for peanuts...not sure if it sounds any better than other stuff...hard to tell, and I've tried! (digital cable comparisons...not easy)...but it's silver, hea...
Entry-level speaker cables My "per foot" comment was innacurate and should be ignored (8tc is not AQ Type 8), but the purchase still lacks shabbiness. Note that after messing around with spades, bananas, Speakon's, guitar phone plugs (which actually do go back to old teleph...
Volume affected by uneven lengths of spker cable?? I've used odd length speaker cables in the past (forced by gear location issues since these were huge cables) and it made zero audible difference. I still have 'em in my basement Cable Museum. |
