HELP PICKING NEW TURNTABLE
I'm steering toward a Rega P6...can't find enough wrong with those at that price point, they come with that speed gizmo, and I can get a red one (THAT'S important). The VTA thing bugs me a little, but the stock optional "Exact" cart seems to be li...
When a Reviewer "likes" something
There ARE negative reviews out there, even accidental ones like the embarrassing D'Agostine meltdown debacle...two of my fave Brit mags, Hifi Choice and Hifi News have a seemingly more balanced approach, including a "likes and dislikes" blurb, alo...
new cartridge for Music Hall MMF 5
Sumiko Pearl. Sounds too good for its price, so I recommend paying double for one so it makes more sense.
What tube pre amp match up with a solid state amp
My pro mixers with balanced, low impedence ins and outs certainly "support the standard" or I wouldn't be able to use 100' snakes for clean signal...Better mic cables do sound better in my experience, as I noticed when recording music for a TV sho...
What tube pre amp match up with a solid state amp
By the way, is there any simple way to test if XLR outputs are actually balanced without a boatload of test gear?
Lottery Winner would buy what kind of Stereo Gear
One of the problems lottery winners have is the inability to enjoy old pleasures in the same way they used to. They often wind up less happy. If I had the ability to assemble a "cost no object" system I'm not sure I'd enjoy it more than my relativ...
What tube pre amp match up with a solid state amp
The Kavent S-33 is exactly the same preamp as a Vincent SA 93 for whatever that's worth (I might be able to find out about the outputs somehow). Although I'm not certain if the XLR outs are truly balanced (with one meter ICs it doesn't matter to m...
advice needed on 1st real stereo system
Again, buy used (or better, "recently discontinued")...plenty of upgraders are dyin' to unload their stuff on you, and this approach really works. Most of my gear, be it pro audio, guitar playing items, or hifi things in great condition have been ...
Cambridge Audio Product Reliability
Cambridge sells PILES of stuff so you have to wonder what percentage of it breaks...more than other large volume manufacturers? Less? Hard to say, although I'm guilty of being in the camp of avoiding things where people have complained about relia...
Cambridge Audio Product Reliability
My DACMagic and 640p phono pre have worked fine so far for years (both have upgraded power supplies...no clue if that makes any difference in longevity)...but after this thread I'll be keeping my eye on 'em...sneaky little bastards...they sit ther...
What tube pre amp match up with a solid state amp
Atmasphere, I use balanced outs from my DAC to balanced ins on my preamp (Kavent S-33), and it was the balanced out from the preamp to the power amp where the Mogami sounded crappy, and the balanced Diamondbacks sound great. Even the weird (but se...
Cambridge 640P Power Supply Upgrade
The cable on the Adcom is fixed and I'm too lazy put an IEC thing on it, and the "mystery" cable on the Jolida seems OK also (I did hook up the PS Audio cable to it just for the heck of it and it sounded the same so its cable seems OK). The Humbus...
Cambridge 640P Power Supply Upgrade
I have a garden hose sized PS Audio Plasma ac cable on my REL sub directly into a PS Audio wall plug, but no exotic AC cables anywhere else (yet)...although my Jolida power amp does have something somebody gave me that is a fairly huge cable...no ...
advice needed on 1st real stereo system
My first good stereo was a KLH Model 20...I only mention this because it makes me happy to think about it. Note that a tubed integrated can be had relatively cheaply and they're fun to look at (Jolida, Primaluna), and great sounding cables can be ...
Cambridge 640P Power Supply Upgrade
I'm using a Jelco Mogami Neglex pair (friggin' hot pink...looks sort of cool actually) that came with a gold plated DIN plug and seemingly nice RCAs from my Linn/Akito table, and a pair of AQ King Cobras out...all sounds great.
