Thoughts on Vincent SP-998/ SP-T800 Mono Blocks. Vincent stuff I’ve experienced seems VERY well made…a close friend has used one of the hybrid SV236 integrateds for years and it sounds really good (it’s a large beast), and I have a now extinct Kavent S-33 which is a rebadged (!) Vincent SA93 dua...
Has biwire speaker cabling become "old" ? As someone very suspicious of many tweaks ("special" fuses, magic dots, wire suspension bridges…blah blah), I was surprised at the results from building a pair of what I thought were way cool jumpers to try in place of the stock gold plated metal...
Speakers that are very accurate sounding but don't produce an emotional connection. Hazyj, albeit punctuation challenged, gets 8 points for Best Post in this thread.
Speakers that are very accurate sounding but don't produce an emotional connection. I think referring to the lovely audiophiles here as "simple tools" is harsh…however, placing your paw on the side of a speaker while it’s playing something is a great way to see if it’s vibrating…who knew? And it may not mean a damn thing to the o...
Mesa Boogie Strategy 400 I bought a Jolida 502p for my hifi rig a while back…it's one of the most inexpensive high quality tube hifi amps out there (a little more expensive now as there's a newer model that can use various tube types, and includes some of the factory "upg...
should i go with kt150's now or wait a bit?? Don't forget the 753 hour break-in period (heh…). I can sympathize regarding sonic attributes of tube swaps as the differences are obviously subjective and often subtle. After all, it's the same amp…I can say that the 150s in my 502 have stayed ab...
should i go with kt150's now or wait a bit?? I compared the Tung Sol 6550s (stock with the Jolida 502p) and a set of Sovtek Kt88s to the 120s and the 120s were better sounding, although the other tubes sounded pretty damn good…note the front end tubes were swapped all over the place until I ...
Two-channel sub connection options If a REL sub is used as most people prefer (high level from a power amp speaker output), the amp "sees" a 100,000 ohm burden, which is a lot like nothing at all. I use 2 RELs on the same power amp with the main speakers on the same output…works ve...
Phono pre "Break-In" process? Necessary? I wonder how designers of well regarded "active" speakers deal with the vibration issues with an amp in the same space (essentially, although there could be some damping of something) as the drivers. Sort of kicks that bit of mythology out the door.
should i go with kt150's now or wait a bit?? This particular "sucker" waited until my trusty 120 reached the end of their road (3 years of hard pressed tubing), and I would have certainly bought another quad of them except for the fact that 150s had engendered such raves and cost $269 for a ...
Speakers that are very accurate sounding but don't produce an emotional connection. Harbeth and some other well regarded UK (and elsewhere) speaker manufacturers often use "live" side panels in the speaker as a part of the overall sound. Stethoscope schmethoscope.
Audio advisor and Constellation amplifiers They have a pair of demo Magicos in their "spring sale" flyer. Discounted to 18 grand or something…makes you wonder how THAT sales meeting went, "Hey Bob, let's get some Magicos and see what they sound like with the Constellations." Done.
Bad news for audiophiles? I hadn't revisited this thread since I posted last June, and I have to apologize for the punctuation issues in that post. I must have been drinking wine.
Just moved to an apartment need speaker suggestions Look at Silverline's stuff…well regarded mini speakers and small towers. I only mention these as I use a pair of Preludes that utilize little metal woofers and an alloy tweeter in a D'Appolito array…sound great.
Phono pre "Break-In" process? Necessary? Roger_paul...There's a smell of paternal condescension in your posts that some may find annoying, including myself. So...my balanced pre-amp to tube power amp system sounds fabulous with rock solid imaging, clarity, punch and tonal accuracy. Lucky... |
