So how many people are using subwoofers
I used a single REL Q150e (150 watt 10") for years with no need for a digital room correction sound nanny (I think they can cloud things with more crap in the mix, plus my largish room has a tall sloping ceiling so it sounds good anyway) as I turn...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
I think this entire thread is actually a well executed parody of "mystical" high end tweaking, and thusly applaud the efforts of all involved. Well done.
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
A note about Vincent…I own a Kavent S-33 preamp that is a re-badged Vincent SA-93…not sure why they needed 2 companies selling the same stuff (Kavent is gone), but in any case it's an amazing balanced dual mono preamp with isolated power supplies ...
What turntable would be great for techno/ electronic music?
YEAH…I also bristle at claims of Genre Specific Gear as it makes zero sense except in the case of somebody needing to use their hifi for high output rave parties, in which case pro PA gear is recommended with a table that's dancing maniac resistant.
Multiple Subs - mixing models
Two subs can exacerbate what might be a bass heavy room, especially rooms with flat ceilings and parallel walls…you just never know. However, a second sub can sometimes have the effect of canceling or minimizing standing waves as it may be somewha...
Speaker recommendations for Jolida 302b
People simply forget that that the Vandy 1C exists, but having owned a pair of 1Bs for years I can imagine how good these things are.  Might not need a sub with them, and the design provides a mini monitor-esque airy tone with deep transmission li...
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
Get yer Williamson/Ultra Linear on...Jolida rarely gets anything reviewed and consequently is one of the best kept secrets (except my grabbing any opportunity to rant about these things) out there. I have a 4 or so year old "factory upgraded" 502p...
Used amp recommendation
I had an Acurus that was unreliable, but then so was my cousin Shirley.
Silverline Speaker Opinion
I had some chicken heads left over from a guitar amp "knobulation" mod. Easier to see what's what, if you get my drift. Note the chicken head knobs will reflect sound differently than round knobs, but coating them with feathers will tame this issue.
Proportion of expenses
Here's the (not so) secret to wide range capability sound…get a set of mains that sound good (to you) to at least 50hz, then get a used REL sub. Problem solved.
Proportion of expenses
I agree with most of this stuff…although too damn lazy to read all of it…but somewhat disagree with the "different musics place different demands on equipment" idea, at least when recommending system choices. All well recorded music is by its natu...
Silverline Speaker Opinion
I bought a beautiful used (Ebay) REL Q150e a few years ago (around the time I bought the Preludes) and it's all the sub most people might need…modded with a "chicken head" knob on the High Level pot so it's easier to know where it (the pot) is. Th...
UPGRADE TIME!! Preamp vs. Speakers???
Turn the whole thing off and walk away as it's all nothing but trouble.
Multiple Subs - mixing models
I recently bought a second REL that is of the same generation as my original Q150e. The newer one is a Q108 MKII that is a "down firing" 100 watt 8" instead of the 150's 150 watt front firing 10. I bought the 108 to stick in my window to help my d...
Bass is not enough !!! Speaker problem? Speaker cable? Power Amp? PC of Power Amp?
I use subs that I turn up or down when I feel they need adjustment…and KT150s do kick butt…I've had mine for over a year and love them things.
