Good looking Towers for < $2000?
Silverline Preludes (not the "Plus" version) have little alloy woofers in a D'Appolito array and the imaging of mini monitors, albeit with useable bass…a screen over the alloy tweeters for "grill off" no worries listening, and sound really friggin...
Stylus Warm-up Time
I have never put vinyl on and thought, "I should listen to this again right now as it might have improved itself." My turntable is next to my gear rack on its own little table and gets ambient heat from my tube power amp, although COME ON MAN...
I have seen some Interesting comments about Mcintosh lately
Legumes are actually a very small group of tubers as they are not tubers at all, but peanuts themselves are a large group if each individual peanut is counted. I hope this clears up that issue. Also, tubes blow of course (had one in my hifi amp co...
I have seen some Interesting comments about Mcintosh lately
The "tube reliability" comments seem to ignore the world of tube guitar amps which have been the standard for most guitar players for generations.  Do Jadis and VTL users spill beer on their amps, drive them to gigs in bouncy vans, or utilize a pa...
Tube Integrated Amp - Help Please
Jolida MD is the only one I'd trust, and the build quality of my amp is like new after nearly 4 years of daily use (502p power amp)…KT150s, etc…sounds great and cost about 1200 bucks new with MD mods.
Klipsch love them or hate them.
I've liked Klipsch stuff for years, although never personally owned anything from them…"Heresy" (spent a LOT of time listening to a friend's pair of those things) might be one of the best audio product names ever. I did have a set of Altec A7s for...
pros and cons: beryllium vs ribbon tweeters in sound and emotions terms
There is the issue of women being attracted to the folded ribbon sound to the point of distraction…when I want to seriously listen to something I don’t need to play doorman and kick all these women out of there….a nuisance, and hard to explain to ...
question about ss or tubes
I have a sign that says "no experts allowed" outside my front door, so that solves that issue…although they do sneak in from time to time and I have to fumigate...Room correction issues can be messed with by using one of the room correction gizmos...
Thought on OTL tube amps
I'm convinced…I'm immediately removing the output transformer from my amp…those wire cutters are around here somewhere...
Tube Integrated Amp - Help Please
I listened to a Rogers KT150 integrated for a while at Stereo Exchange last year…nice amp but not necessarily better sounding than my el-cheapo modest modded Jolida, and, of course, not in my house with my pile of gear…so perhaps irrelevant, but s...
Imaging and system stand placement
Balanced low impedance signal lines can be run a long way without degradation, although I personally don't do long runs with my hifi…just live stuff. Differing  speaker wire lengths often aren't audible unless there are extreme differences, and ev...
So how many people are using subwoofers
The Swarm system just seems cool and inexpensive…if I wasn't happy with my RELs I'd seriously consider those things. It's true that a lot of music doesn't get to sub territory, but I like the ambient aspect of the sub adding that airy reality to t...
Neutral electronics are a farce...
Sumo is one of the coolest names anybody came up with for an amp line…somebody should revive that name and make a new tough looking amp.
Tube Integrated Amp - Help Please
Note that Jolida makes fine stuff these days and their integrateds are about half the cost of their nearest competitors…I have no commercial connection with Jolida, but since I rave about my 502p amp so often they should at least send me a damn t-...
Neutral electronics are a farce...
I use balanced cable runs from my DAC to the preamp, and balanced out to the amp.  Perhaps unnecessary but I like XLR plugs from many years in pro audio and recording…snappy!
