Audio Research Ref. 3, Ref. 5, or the Ref. 5se. Asking which ARC gear is better, the cheaper or the more expensive, you're going to get these kind of responses. In defense of the Ref 3, I emphatically state that it is a bargain at the used price. In fact, with the money I saved I upgraded to ...
Skewed cantilever - Opinions? I would not be happy with that cart. Who knows if the coils are centered in the magnetic field?Note: The cantilever is always the reference for alignment, not the cart body.
What Are You Listening To Right Now?What is the Source? I just finished listening to the vinyl soundtrack of "Elf" with Guinness IPA. Both excellent. 'tis the season!
Your "eureka" digital moment My digital "eurika" moment was when I got rid of it. Prior to that it was high res digital.
Transfiguration Phoenix vs Ortofon Cadenza I haven't compared the two but I do have the Cadenza Bronze mounted on an original 10" VPI arm. It tracks beautifully. If it were me I would choose according to whether I wanted the additional warmth of the Bronze or the detail of the Black. It...
Vinyl? The recording means a lot. On the other hand, I have been pleasantly surprised by some recordings I thought were bad, only to find them excellent once my system was brought up to a level that could handle all the information presented.
New format, dislike..... OK, I figured out the "gear" icon on the right of my post when I’m logged in. When I hover over it (or when I hover over anyones post) I get a previously invisible "report this" flag. When I click on the gear icon I can edit my post within 30 mi...
New format, dislike..... I like that I can post in real time. No waiting six hours to two days.
Newbie, old timer or returned to analog? I stayed with vinyl all the way from my first mono Monkees album. I do remember the last CD I bought - last week - it came with the Beatles ONE blu-ray set. It's a remix of ONE. The blu-rays are highest quality even by todays standards, if you ...
Sgt. Pepper's. remastered Mobile Fidelity I have the recently reissued Sgt Peppers on Capitol vinyl and it sounds really, really good. The remastered CD was also recently released on Capitol but I have not heard it.
How often do you upgrade your turntable? My VPI HW-19MKIV is 20 years old. I'll upgrade when I am unhappy with it.
tube vs SS my own little test I find the 15 minute/1 hour times typical for ARC gear with 2 hours being better as well. The first 12 minutes are a waste. Worth the wait though, like cooking on a charcoal grill instead of gas.
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable If I can hear a big difference and can truly afford it, it's worth it.If I can't hear much of a difference or can't afford it, it's not worth it.Is it a good value? Never. That is the nature of Luxury.I think no-one here is saying luxury cables ar...
Lyra Delos or Soundsmith Boheme for Space deck/arm +1 on the Bronze.I like coherent, balanced and dynamic sound. PRAT is very important, bass and soundstage too. I can sacrifice some resolution and imaging sharpness. Prefer warm side of the neutral, not too warm. That describes the cart to a tee. Q...
why do people feel the need to buy expensive cable I buy and enjoy used components that hold their value for years. Key is buying from a mainstream manufacturer with a big (cult?) following, good support and longevity. For me that is ARC, VPI, Nordost and Vandersteen. In that light, cables are as ... |
