Is Digital actually better than Analog?
I usually listen to cd's but vinyl is fun to mess with, and since I grew up on vinyl I think the memories help the experience. Some records do sound absolutely wonderful though. I find I sing along with vinyl.
Overlooked R & R gems from the past
Butts Band. Only put out two albums, you can get them both on one disc, "The Complete Butts Band Recordings." Good blues /soul/R & B. Robbie Krieger from the DOORS is the guitarist and John Densmore form the DOORS is the drummer. This is REALL...
what is good music?
First, the music has to be a good song. A great original song by a mediocre singer or musician can still be good. It becomes great music when the musical performance is as great as the song. A great performance can be good music even if the song i...
1955-2001 Favorite Top Ten Rock Groups
The Beatles, Stones, Who, Allman Brothers, Tull, Zeppelin, Richard Thompson, SRV & Double Trouble, Jimi Hendrix experience, Dylan.
I think it is time to retire
These artists are musicians. It's their profession and life. We don't bash old black bluesman for playing until the end. If you don't like them fine, don't listen, don't go. Neil's latest is great.
Another musical "heads up"....
Well, "It still moves" by My Morning Jacket has in my opinion terrible sonics. It was recorded with this horrible exaggerated reverb which makes it almost unlistenable to me. The songs are at best ok, but the sound quality, really bad.
Best Blues on CD/SACD?
Speaking of Melvin Taylor, who is great. I recently had the pleasure of seeing him live at "Rosa's", a Chicago blues joint on Armitrage. Only about 20 people in the place on a Tuesday evening. He usually plays every Tuesday and also on a lot of we...
does anybody still listen
Someone mentioned a cd changer. I have a Pioneer 100 disc player(they have 200 also). It may not be audiophile, but it still sounds really good to me. It's the greatest thing for discovering songs you maybe forgot about. I find myself running to s...
Your favorite recent discovery
Sonny Landreth - "Levee Town." Just got it. it's kind of eerie after Katrina. Great Zydeco Blues slide guitar and good recording too. Strong set of songs, no dogs! It's a few years old, anyone heard his newest release?
The Kinks "Muswell Hillbillies"
Thanks a lot
What is the test of time?
Since it was my post, it means that most people who listen to a particular piece of music many years from now will still feel it is great music. In addition, most musical scholars/critics/artists will recognize the piece as a classic. It won't be ...
Folks with large collections.....
All my equipment was purchased in the late 80's, early 90's. I have Nestorovic 5AS loudspeakers, Lazurus cascade tube pre-amp, Adcom amp, Pioneer cd player, Phillips TT. I think it sounds fabulous. The good cd's from the 80'-90's sound good, the b...
Why are audiophiles perceived as being wackos?
I know an audiophile who will tell me about a recent component he just got, a Moon Eclipse cd player for example. He tells me how extraordinary, incredible it sounds. A few days later, or a couple of weeks, he has sold the player on audiogon becau...
Good Quality Led Zepplin CD's do they even exist?
Ben, or somebody. Is the box set of 4 discs that came out in the early 90's (basically collects all their best songs from all their albums plus a few rarities) which has a picture of a zeppelin going over the crop circles on the box cover the same...
