The old timers give the young'ns tips on the 60s. "Nuggets" box set (4 cd). This has great early-mid sixties garage rock (beginning of punk) such as "Louie, Louie," "Wooly Bully", "Pushin too Hard," "Liar, Liar" etc. Also, Wishbone Ash, "Argus" great guitar work for a prog-rock album.
The old timers give the young'ns tips on the 60s. Garland Jeffreys - "Ghost Writer" if you can find it, or the latest compilation which has most of the songs from that album on it. New York rock and R & B, great !
Derek Trucks Band Actually, Dickey is the reason that Dickey is no longer in the ABB.
Richard Thompson recommendations The old kit bag, Richard in guitar form. He is the best guitarist. At least, his solos are always interesting, different from other players, never boring. Plus he is a great vocalist. Buy the albums not compilations. The one with Bathsheba is prob...
Johnny Winter better than ever So what is the "best" guitar player anyway ? If you like the music then you probably think the guitarist is the best! Personally, while I like the long or wild solos as much as the next guy, that isn't the be all or end all to great guitar playing...
Greatest Rock Guitar Riffs "OHIO" (or "Cinnamon Girl") - Neil Young, "JJ Flash" - Stones, "Born on the Bayou" - CCR, "The King will come" - Wishbone Ash, (Of course) "Day Tripper" - you know who, "Trouble no more" - Allman Bros., "Levee Breaks" - Zeppelin,
Vinyl or wait for the new stuff?? Vinyl can sound great on cheap equipment, I know since I've been listening to it for 50 years. You don't need an expensive turntable etc,to enjoy vinyl. Yes, it's better but not necessary. Yet, not all vinyl is equal. Some vinyl really sucks and i...
Remasters: which are the good ones? Anyone heard any of the 2007 Stones cd's from Japan? Saw some at the Electric Fetus (MPLS). They are expensive, wondering if they are worth it ($30 +)?
Looking for the BEST Version of Quadrophenia? Jaybo, what is the date of the latest Universal cd. I've seen a cd dated 1996, is that the latest and greatest?
Returning to REO's "Hi-Infidelity"..... Anyone have the two-fer cd of REO 1 and REO 2. I was wondering about the quality of the sound, re-mastered in 2007?
Any bluegrass fans? This album is from the seventies and is great on vinyl, (if you can find it) or you can order a good sounding cd from Tut Taylor. Find him on the web and order (I did). This is TT, Norman Blake, Sam Bush, Dave Holland,Vassar Clements etc jamming t...
Best sounding Beatles albums I'm having a good laugh about all this. Everything and nothing is the best or not. Does anyone want to hear the original master tapes as they were originally done (mostly mono) without any crap added or subtracted, as the BEATLES intended, (warts ...
White Album, when's your last listen? Wouldn't it be something if they actually released their catalog in high rez ( like the Stones sacd's) or in true mono like they intended ? We all, and the remaining Beatles will all be dead before it happens, why ???
New Beatles HELP on DVD I've posted this before with no response from anyone. Just wondering who, whether me, or the remaining alive Beatles/management, will croak first before proper recordings ( Hi-rez, mono, sacd/dvd) will be done of their catalog ? Gee, the Stones di...
New Rainbow remasterings are awful I used to be spoiled by RHINO re-masters, however they are now susceptible to the LOUDNESS crap. Rhino did the Dwight Yoakam "best of" re-master and it is recorded SO LOUD that you have to run to the volume control (or whatever) to turn it down, C... |
