Fuse upgrades? -- 6.3 amp 250v 5X20mm fast blow fuses
Geoff,Thanks for chiming in.  I will admit that Steve McCormack is a devotee of SR fuses and he knows audio gear.
Fuse upgrades? -- 6.3 amp 250v 5X20mm fast blow fuses
Thanks for the insights, gents, much appreciated.  As you have noted, fuses blow for a reason, and I think in my case it has been due to poor connections with my interconnect cables and me fiddling with gear on rack.  I plead guilty!   I ordered s...
Carver 275 Crimson tube amp --- any feedback appreciated
Thanks for the insight, it is valuable.  I have had a ton of tube gear, including a HK Citation C-II and C-V, fully restored, and lots of other tube amps and I parted with them for solid state amplication.  I might revisit my affair with a tube am...
“Oppomod” linear power supply
Not sure if my response is on point, but I had a $375 proprietary mod done on on my Oppo 103 by Stereo Dave's Audio Alternative and it was totally amazing.  The improvement in SQ was apparent from the first measure of the music.  The noise level w...
What were your humble beginnings on the path to high end audio?
Rectilinear III's were my first fine speakers and still are, to my knowledge, excellent speakers.  I had HK Citation I, II, and V components, all upgraded by Don Sachs, but I got tired of tube gear.  My first TT was a $100 AR TT with a modest Shur...
DAC OR NO DAC???
I agree with Bob in his recommendations above about the Ayre Codex (often available for $1200 used) and perhaps about the Schiit Gungnir.  I have had 5 DAC's priced under $1K and found no significant difference in their performance.  However, I go...
Class D Audio
You guys are missing your calling as stand-up comedians... this is some damn funny stuff.  Thanks for a damn good laugh to finish my day.  It is the best medicine and might be of some help to Tom.
Dac Technology Mature?
No question DAC technology has matured.  I had a half dozen DAC in the past several years priced under $1K and recently picked up an Ayre QB-9 DAC and the SQ improvement was stunning.  The fact of the matter is that you have to spend north of $2K ...
New way for audiophiles to die!
Nonoise,Peggy Lee's version of that song is one of my all-time favorite jazz tunes and would be apt.   Great post!
too bad Audiogon seems to have morphed to fussy, picky buyers
Kdude166:My friend, if you are only gonna stay on the "buy" side of transactions, you will have a houseful of gear over time.  Yeah, I say the same thing about drinking after having a couple too many the night before, then I come back to reality. ...
Notable very small loudspeaker companies (other than Tekton!)
+1 for Fritz.
If you like Revel F208, you would love ....
Tute....I thought the F208's were fabulous and as well as the JA Pearls, but the latter at $20K or so.  +1 on the Salk Song3A speakers... outstanding speakers for the price.  My pal who owns the M4 Triode Masters is keen to hear the PAP Trio15 spe...
Stll listen to Dynaco Speakers? Sound comparison with AR?
Off topic here, but maybe relevant.  I forgot that I had a pair of KLH Model 5 speakers a few years back.  I had them recapped and rewired.  The beveled cabinets were beefy as hell and the five drivers in a three-way configuration were vastly bett...
Preamp under $2,000 used
My favorite preamp is from Don Sachs.  It is by far the most musical preamp I have ever had.  I previously had CJ, HK, Berning, Modwright, Belles, and a few others I know forget, and the Don Sachs preamp is clearly the best.
Just Got My Oppo 205!
I have an Oppo 103 with modest upgrades by Stereo Dave's in Seattle and it is fantastic.  My pal has a tube-upgraded Oppo 105 and just got a 205 and we compared them side by side and I  thought the they both sounded pretty much alike, both excelle...
