Why are Harbeth speakers expensive while its drivers are not.
I currently use the P3SER, and they are superb. I bought them used, as I almost invariably do with audio components, and am quite comfortable with the value that they represent in that context.
Equipment Stand
I'm a big fan of the (vented) Quadraspire SVT. I have it in Bamboo, and am very happy with it.Here's a link to the manufacturer:https://quadraspire.co.uk/svt.html
Best female vocal recording on CD?
Mary Stallings. Widely underrated and superb, in my view.Live At The Village Vanguard would be an excellent start.
Selling speakers to a buyer in Russia?
To paraphrase Nancy Reagan, just say nyet.
My journey to search for standmount bookshelf speakers...
I second yogiboy's recommendation of the Harbeth P3ESR.
What drugs do you use to enhance your listening experience?
I second @golferboy 's cynicism. And like the OP, I find a touch of high-quality cannabis to be a fine compliment.Oh, and I happen to live in (the above-mentioned) Portugal, so no worries about personal use. Just as it should be.
Random thoughts from a sort of, kind of audiophile
I’m in my 50s, and can relate to the original post mainly within the context of diminishing returns.I don’t doubt that small tweaks can make a difference, and have experienced such differences on many occasions. However, I have never been interest...
(Used) speaker cable replacement suggestions for Virtual Dynamics David?
Thanks for your response. Your question is fair, and I don't have a clear answer to give. As both you and I (in my initial post) have suggested, there are several other variables that may well be responsible for my not being quite as satisfied wit...
Your first component that was "special"
Magnepan Tympani IVa speakers, driven by a Bryston amp, coupled with an Apt Holman pre-amp. All classics of the late '70s/early '80s, and I have little doubt that the system would still sound good today.
Search for miracle integrated
I owned a Rowland Concentra I for many years, and it was outstanding. Some caveats, though:They run hot and are always on (no on/off switch).According to some reliable sources here in Europe (where I now live), certain internal parts are sealed so...

@unknoahbleActually, the E-303 can be found for $800-1000, and I just recently upgraded to an E-303x for around $1300.Note, however, that I am in Europe, and that is where these models are typically found (outside of Japan). Also, recapping is alw...

Ah, sorry. No problem.BTW, I am not claiming that vintage gear is objectively as good or better than current technology, but simply that some very pleasing sound can be produced by good vintage gear.I owned a Jeff Rowland Concentra for a number of...

@paraneer "true vintage"? What, exactly, are you talking about? I mentioned two Accuphase models from the '70s and early '80s.Their specs are plenty good, as is the sound that they produce.

Top-class vintage, which can be had within the OP's price range, can sound extremely good. I would recommend considering either an Accuphase E-303 or E-303x. Worth having them recapped, but they both look and sound superb.
Is it idiotic to stack components directly on top of one another?
Thanks for the feedback.
