Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
"I have a friend who is interested in putting together a system" Not knowing much about your friend, it’s difficult to set priorities about what is important to them: Mac/PC? Dog/cat? Internal combustion/EV? Zappa/Hank Sr. Etc. I would start by ...
Antique Sound Labs
@jmalen123  +1
Cable management....crossing at right angles or
Crossing at 90 degrees is, technically, the "right" angle.  That means that all others would be the "wrong" angle?
Better hearing
Can you guys use a larger (bold preferred) font? Having a hard time hearing you.
I saw the back of an integrated and it depressed me.
@asvjerry I like how you’re thinking. I just can’t decide if this is an opporunity for personal growth, or I should immediately change meds. Tough call. My "for real" dally driver plate reads: "LUV HZ". I got a twofer here: A tribute to my ex, ...

@baylinor  "I remember the guy on here who used to swear by hanging wires off the floor with fishing lines tied to the ceiling." I have insider information that this is how Bass Pro Shops got started.
Velodyne DD15 - worth repairing the plate amp?
For me, the Amp Man repair approach is a no-brainer. Selling off savagable decent hifi gear at fire sale pricing doesn’t pass the "4th grade math" test IMO. The net, net value to you is higher with a repaired unit, even if you’re ready to move on....
Room Too Dead
I’d say hang some framed politcal posters in strategic points in the room. This will provide more reflected sound and will definitely "liven things up" when your closest friends (for the time being) get together.
One key to building great systems over time.
@stuartk  "For me at least, there’s an advantage to "willful ignorance" when it comes to audio." I agree with this statement.  There's nothing wrong with staying in one's comfort zone.  We still service vintage gear.  Many pieces are 45+ years o...
Happy Audiophile Day!
Okay, it’s National Audiophile Day: Does that mean others have to give us permission to be as nit picky as we want about all things sound related?  Or, do we speak of all things in Audiophile terms: ”Honey, that coffee has warmth, blondness, an...
Happy Audiophile Day!
Wow!  Time to rotate the assortment of Q-tips.  Thanks for the heads up.
How do you add color?
Paint a mustache on the Mona Lisa?
What do/did you do for a living?
I stumbled and fell into a career in audio after the economy shouted outloud that my pursuits of "an architect in training" ambitiion was over. 51 years later, I hit the eject button, and here I am. I figured out, early on, that’s it better/cheape...
What do/did you do for a living?
@mammothguy54  "I then went to work directly for Alpine and climbed the corporate ladder.  I managed the Western states for sales & distribution and the sales force." I still have my Car Audio Nationals jacket.  And, the trophy.
