AVM SA 6.3 Stereo Amplifier - Any thoughts?
I am an AVM dealer.  The bulk of my listening has been with the MA 8.3s which have the tube input stage and they are beyond phenomenal and the A5.2 which is one of their hybrid class D integrated.  The MA 8.3s delivered delicacy and a smooth and a...
Help choosing an power amplifier
I would look at a Rogue Audio Sphinx and I would roll in a set of NOS Mullard driver tubes.  This will deliver plenty of power to handle the B&Ws, the Mullards will add a bit of warmth and will deliver wonderful detail and a great listening ex...
Shipping floor standing speakers
What is the weight?  If you go much above 70lbs per box, that is when the horrible handling of FedEx UPS creates a risk.I shipped a pair of Zu Essences which are packed in like 4 inches of foam.  I assume FedEx dropped one of the boxes off the bac...
Wanting to narrow the field for compatible speakers
I would echo @soix questions and would also be curious if you can tell us a bit about what you like in terms of sound.  There are a ton of speakers available in this price range and the speakers you have are not exactly mediocre.  For example:Vivi...
Preamp advice needed
Am interesting option is the KR P135. It is a 45 based preamp and throws a huge soundstage and has an optional preamp. See the review at Positive Feedback.  I am trying to decide what preamp to bring in for AXPONA this year and this is one of the ...
Help choosing an power amplifier
Depends on the size of your room, how loud you listen and how much power you want/need.  Given that B&W is a challenging load with a forward sound profile, a warmer amp that handles lower impedances would be ideal. For lower power I would look ...
It's time to replace my 2009 factory-modded Wadia S7i with a current R2R DAC.
My experience with decent CD player vs. decent standalone DAC, server and HD is that they will perform very similarly.  What is most important and what will deliver best performance is clock synchronization from server to DAC.  If they don't synch...
Nucleus vs Nucleus plus - sonic diff?
@jaytor is right.  The Nucleus is limited in its application of DSPs to DSD but it absolutely processes DSD just fine.
Better/best fullrange nearfield speakers?
Not sure it this is spot on but the Revel Ultima Studio IIs were amazing in near field.  That is how I demo'd them at the Harmon Store.
BW 800 D3 Floor Speakers
The AVM Ovation MA 8.3s can drive virtually any speaker.  Despite the 1100w power rating, they are surprisingly refined and delicate.  They would be brilliant with those.
dcs bartok vs DENAFRIPS TERMINATOR-PLUS
Good luck!
VTL MB 185 SERIES II
In triode you will love them.  They are awesome sounding amps.  With autobias, I wouldn't hesitate as long as 110w is adequate.
dcs bartok vs DENAFRIPS TERMINATOR-PLUS
That amp and those speakers look amazing. Which DAC is best is going to depend on the exact tonal profile of the piegas. Assuming that is a typical ribbon (and is nor terribly bright) my hunch is the Dave and MScaler combo would be the slightly be...
Roon Nucleus as a streamer
You would need to find a DAC that is "Roon Ready" which means that it has a built in rendered/player if you want it simply to connect via the network.
dcs bartok vs DENAFRIPS TERMINATOR-PLUS
You didn’t mention what you have today? The dCS and Denafrips are going to sound a bit different. The dCS is going to be a bit more more forward and detailed. Alternative options would be the Chord Dave with an MScaler which I think beats the Bart...
