BAT VK 53SE vs ARC Ref 5SE
Do you know how sensitive those amps are?  SETs tend to be very sensitive and work best with very little to no gain.  They are also not balanced circuits, given the name "single ended triode".  Do your Welborne's have XLR inputs?  That would be od...
So damn hard deciding which tube preamp to buy!
Sorry for taking time to get back to you on this.  Was with family at the beach.  You want to have the right amount of gain, output impedance.  Get those right and the amp will sound great.  If you have too little or too much gain, sound will be b...
Roon for high end audio?
It is possible for a Roon Core (PC, Nucleus,  etc…) to serve as both server and renderer.    It is better to have different devices, a server and renderer, but the same device can serve as both.  For example, you can run a USB cable from a Roon Nu...
So damn hard deciding which tube preamp to buy!
This article explains it pretty well.  http://www.moxtone.com/Tube_buffer_en.htmlBAT uses tubes in the rectification (power supply) vs a SS rectifier.  This is technically a quieter approach.  My experience is that in practice, this is only really...
Bricasti M3/M1SE
I don’t believe so.  There may be a way to override and load different software but I don’t know what it is.  Nucleus is a Roon device. The Antipodes S30 (pricier I know) does have the flexibility to use a bunch of different software packages.
Mixed Use Space - Advice for speakers placed close to back wall
Vivid works well placed near wall.  They are designed with flexibility in mind and the Kaya line is a GREAT all around speaker for movies and music.  Aesthetically, they are different.  But they are brilliant.  I have Kaya 45s here and they grow o...
Bricasti M3/M1SE
I had a Dell Tower dedicated just to running Roon core and nothing else hard wired to my network.  A Roon Nucleus was a big and noticeable step forward.  The CX will blow your PC out out the water.  Not what you want to hear I am sure but PCs just...
What is the reason for this? (Digital vs Vinyl Question)
Someone above mentioned Dynavector.  That is a perfect upgrade in terms of cartridge.  10x, or 20x. Whichever you can afford.  You will get no noise issues with that Dynavector.  Rega grounds differently than some other tables and you can get some...
What is the reason for this? (Digital vs Vinyl Question)
That Naim is a surprisingly good digital rig.  Your TT and phono aren't "entry level" but only one rung up.  A step up in phono stage and at least cartridge will pay dividends.  Rega tables in general are known for PRaT which usually means punchy ...
Bricasti M3/M1SE
So, I am a Bricasti and Antipodes dealer.  I just sold a used pair of CX/EXs and they are good units and have my demos of the M1SE and M3 on the way. The reality is, the network card in the Bricasti only replaces the EX.  You still want a server. ...
amplifier with volume control
It depends on the amp and the optimal level of gain required.  With an amp that is extremely sensitive, (for example Art Audio PX25 or Diavolo is driven to max volume at .5v input) a passive preamp is preferred.  With amps that are less sensitive,...
Kimber PK 10/14 Ascent Power Cord
I assume the connectors were gold.  That being said, I did not ask and can’t be certain one way or another.  I was room 525.  Most noteworthy write up was at part-time audiophile. Search for Verdant.  It is easy to find.  I am not going to be at C...
Kimber PK 10/14 Ascent Power Cord
I ran these at Capital Audiofest on loan from Kimber.  I thought they were extremely natural sounding and the overall impact on my system was to add dynamics but not much more.  That is about as nice a thing as I think I can say about a cable and ...
Recommended USB Cables.
I am currently using an Audioquest Diamond to connect a Chord 2Go/2Yu to my Weiss DAC.  I was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds.  Improved clarity but difficult to describe beyond that it in that it seems to have no discernable coloration...
Canton Reference 9k opinions
The Cantons are excellent speakers.  They are not brutal to drive and will do a nice job in a small space but agree, a subwoofer would be essential.  A subwoofer with an active crossover is always better than one without.  I am not sure if 100hz i...
