Bookshelf Speakers; Ported vs. Acoustic Suspension Adding a sub changes things. On the one hand, sealed box satellites might do some things better, but most subs don't work very well when asked to go much beyond the bottom octave, so ported satellites might work better in that regard. I suggest yo...
Bookshelf Speakers; Ported vs. Acoustic Suspension ...Or, since size is already limiting bass response, don't let a sealed box reduce it any further.
How many watts per channel are enough? FWIW:http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2000/12/amprule.shtm
How many watts per channel are enough? Zd542, legally they would all be required to put out at least 100 Watts. I agree that 89 dB isn't that inefficient, but 39 Watts is really on the low side for a room of that size.
Replacement for KSA-50 I'd keep an eye on e-bay. They show up from time to time there. After securing one, you might want to send it to Thiel for inspection. A bit of needed maintenance on the Theil eq's is not unheard of. Thiel tends to be very generous about doing suc...
Looking for a subwoofer to match my GMA Europas Tread carefully, a room that small won't likely support very low bass.
Replacement for KSA-50 I think your better off using the eq. The eq starts boosting at 70 Hz, not an area where most sub-woofers do their best work. If you want to use a sub, I suggest using the 40 Hz setting on the eq. I don't think the eq really causes that much compr...
Teledyne Acoustic Research Ar9 speakers John Dunlavy was pretty adamant that cabling wasn't too important. He did market some cables that he suggested did follow good engineering principles, but didn't think them any better than zip cord :-) .
Dunlavy SC4 Speakers If I might add a little more regarding comparisons between the Vandy 2's and the Dunlavy IV's bass. The Vandy's bass might be a little looser, the Dunlvay's bass a little tighter. Both are about the same in bass depth. Based upon your last post, i...
Dunlavy SC4 Speakers By comparing the Dunlavy's to the Vandersteens your comparing two speakers that are more similar to each other than most others are. IMHO, the Dunlavy's just further the the Vandy qualities; less laid back, more neutral, bigger soundstage, more dy...
Dunlavy SC4 Speakers I've long held that the Vandy 2's just might be the best value in all of audio. While not the last word in low end depth, they're much better in that regard compared to most anything near their price and size. Despite their size, I don't think you...
Speaker choice: impedance, sensitivity, and tubes ...And if the speakers are measured at 2.83 Volts, as the impedance numbers go up, the power (Watts) of a ss amp output is reduced, as the efficiency of the speakers are correspondingly increased. All of which should work towards constant linear s...
Dunlavy SC4 Speakers Perhaps it's just me, but I wouldn't describe the Vandy 2's as having "...just no bottom end.".
Replacement for KSA-50 Yes, the Krell is great amp, but... those Theils wouldn't mind some more power, and FWIW, I never much cared for fans on amps.
Dunlavy SC4 Speakers Sorry, I haven't heard the Telydynes. FWIW, I don't think you'll get much more bass from the SC IV's than your Vandy 2's. With that said, I'd rather the Dunlavys, especially at that price. |
