Cable Break In for the Naysayers “…I just experienced cable break in firsthand…” Good for you! Some of us ascribe that to the placebo effect. I’m one of them. In my 55 years experience since building a Dyna70 at age 14, I have had plenty of time to experiment with dozens of c...
Yes, cables do make a difference -- regardless of price... @cleeds I have the newspaper article with the quote in it. I clipped it. I moved and I’m still unpacking. I’ll be happy to show it it you when I get my hands on it. i believe it’s The NY Times or WaPo debunking the absurd amounts spent on audio...
Cable Break In for the Naysayers @ozzy I will put my system up against any out there and I’ll bet that it comes out as equal to far better than any out there 99% of the time, at any price point. I will also say that once you arrive at the quality level of my system, it’s mostl...
Yes, cables do make a difference -- regardless of price... @cleeds And likewise, no one is obliged to follow your belief system. ugh, I can’t believe that these cable arguments come up time and time again. The guy who founded Monster Cable himself said that the whole notion of high end cables was a...
Yes, cables do make a difference -- regardless of price... I take careful note of the way that the word “belief” always enters discussion on this topic. I’m agnostic. Beliefs are for theists and atheists. https://www.theaudioatticvinylsundays.com/about
Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K Altec Lansing 604C. I’ve been using them for 46 years. At 101db, they get very loud very fast with little juice or distortion, though that is only one of their virtues. If they were good enough for Bruce Botnick (The Doors, The Beach Boys, The R...
Is more amp power always better...? The SET folks say that the first watt is the most important. Some of them get by with 5 and I’ve heard even less. In other words, quality over quantity but you need enough to drive your inefficient speakers.
All speakers have a little EQ built in I have Altec 604Cs. Good speakers but they were not known for the crossover. I got a pair of Mastering Lab crossovers and had them refurbished with new caps. They have mid and upper shelving. Made a difference. My room is semi-anechoic.
Did your system getting better the more money you spent or more experience you gained? I started down this path when I built a Dyna Stereo 70 at the age of 14. I am 69 now. I’ll be writing about the journey for this group sometime soon but not today. My system design can be found at the bottom of the page link below. The law of...
Contemporary Classical Composers - new discoveries Here is a stunning performance of the Winsboro Cotton Mill Blues, based on a one minute Pete Seeger folk song:
Contemporary Classical Composers - new discoveries @mahgister has many fine examples. But he’s overlooked the finest composer for piano, and the finest virtuoso performer on the piano, of the latter half of the 20th Century. But for now, I provide a link to what is my favorite composition ...
Did your system getting better the more money you spent or more experience you gained? I’ve been at this hobby for 55 years. I built my first amp, a Dyna 70, when I was 14. I was born on the wrong side of the tracks. So I’m a cheap rat bastard. I believe the system I have built up over the years stands up to 98% of the stuff ...
Using PA Speakers In A Home "Audiophile" Application! I’ve been using Altec 604Cs for 46 years. For decades, audiophiles would sneer at them, calling them, among other things I won’t repeat here, “PA speakers”. Well, I’ve been happy with them, and like clothing fashions, what goes around comes arou...
