How To Do You Measure the Quality of Your AC Power?
I have a dedicated line into my system. Pretty quiet. I have had few problems.
The best room upgrade: $2250
I have 17” of rock wool in the ceiling, 6” in the walls. For thermal performance reasons mainly, but my architect said to cover with fire resistant burlap instead of sheetrock and I would have a recording studio quality sound to my room. He was no...
Bass sensation like a loud car system in home?
Why would you ever want that? When I think of car audio, I think of the ghetto blasters that are played so loud that the sound of the plastic car body sounding like it’s gonna vibrate clear off the car frame is louder than the music itself.
I feel bad for GenX'ers that missed out on the 60s and 70s.
And boomers missed out on the 80s 90s.  🙄
Do you all agree when Prince said the 60s, 70s and 80s were the golden ages of music?
Well, Prince included a decade that includes himself, of course. Mick Jagger agrees with him, but the reason being that the period coincides with a window within which the landscape of recording technology and merchandising allowed artists to vast...
So how much do you think the placebo effect impacts our listening preferences?
In my view, emotions are to blame for much - maybe most, maybe all - consumer decision making in ways that are largely subconscious. The placebo effect is emotion driven. It is inevitable that decisions get made about the purchase of any and maybe...
Review: VAS Nova Ultimate Reference LOMC
Wow. No responses. Why is that?I am thinking of using Steve for cartridge repair, but I have been using Van den Hul for almost 30 years. It is hard to switch allegiances, but it would be nice to be able to drive my cartridge to repair instead of t...

speakermaster: I had it close to the mains, in a corner behind a main, in a corner behind the other main, between the mains, between the mains forward a bit, between the mains backward a bit, against one wall about half way between me and the main...

Keillor: the Velodyne ULD 25 is floor firing. I can’t “aim” it in any direction in the way you suggest.
Sub placement
Mijostyn, Your comment is consistent with the rational behind the coaxial mains: the tweeter and woofer signal comes from the same point source. No “corners” to put the sub in at the moment.

Andrs65: I am not familiar with the technology that you are using. I’m just glad a light bulb finally went off in my head about putting it behind the “sweet chair”.I thought: the sub sounds the best in its old spot between and slightly behind the ...

Ddrave44:The only control on the 15” Velodyne ULD II is a volume control. That’s it. It is set 50% lower now. I have a BBE282ii to adjust the phasing, one for each channel, but those are between the preamp and the sub’s servo/amp. The sub’s servo ...

Oldhbymec,Thx, I suspect that the feet that I’m waiting for will help. I had wooden floors in the loft but the mechanical transmission wasn’t as much of a problem as the reflections were. Speakers in the front: I guess I’m old old old school. Not ...

Musicaddict:I don’t hear the sub’s location. When listening to Bill Evan’s “Waltz for Debby” the bass is in fact coming from the front of the stage off to the right for example. But the piano is now very nearly in my lap! The Velodyne crosses over...

Thx jtcf. I have a second Velodyne ULD 15, but these things are big enough (don’t forget the huge cabinets that the Altecs are in), and this one already can be easily felt on the ground floor (ground, 2nd, 3rd, attic), yet I wasn’t getting the sou...
