PMC 24 and Canalis Cambria two way floorstanders; What is the advantage to this design?:
@ Value is a tricky issue.  On many items, there's close to a 50% spread on wholesale vs. retail.  Factor in actual manufacturing costs, packaging, shipping, etc. etc. and then what's left?  Whatever that is, the manufacturer has to make a profit ...
Tubes
Very happy with GGL AU's and AT's.  Tried a NOS Amperex in the pre-amp socket, and very little difference between it and the GGL.
Classical Music for Aficionados
Now you've mentioned Lupu, one of my all-time-favorite piano recordings is Lupu with Brahms Op. 117, 118, 119.  Sublime music played sublimely.
Low AC Line Voltage
Besides simple voltage fluctuation, there's different amounts of crap on the line at different times of day, different days of the week, and when the weather is different (HVAC in use or not).  The width of the variation will depend on the neighbo...
Musician vs. audiophile
Valid points here, but I think it also has something to do with the low volumes that you're listening at.  Some speakers (or speaker+amp combos) just don't "come alive" at low volumes, even though at higher volumes they may beat up on the alternat...
PMC 24 and Canalis Cambria two way floorstanders; What is the advantage to this design?:
Having owned the 2-way Proac Response 2.5 for many years, I set out a few years ago to look for new speakers, and I was definitely biased towards 3-way or 4-way designs.  After listening to a lot of speakers (the quest is chronicled in one of my o...

Gumby vs Yggy
The Yggdrasil will sound very different to the Gungnir.  Read the review in Absolute Sound.  Incisive is one adjective they use.  It's definitely not in the mellow camp.
Hegel Mohican vs. Bryston BCD-3
@jafant There's a good deal of commentary on the BCD-3 over on Audio Circle.  A number of 1 owners have moved to the 3.  General verdict--same good qualities, but more so.  I'm also currently in this boat (as a BCD-1 owner; prefer this to Cambridg...
Hegel Mohican vs. Bryston BCD-3
Let's forget the comparison.Has anyone even heard (or bought?!?!?) the Mohican?
Need recommendation for amplifier
Wondering about that 6/10.  A few details would have been helpful.
high-efficiency loudspeakers
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Coincident. Also, Spatial Audio now makes a special triode-oriented variant.
Classical Music for Aficionados
@sevs Here's one that you might like a lot.  Dobrinka Tabakova, "String Paths", on ECM.  Mix of chamber music and orchestral.  There are a couple of wonderfully melting slow movements.
Simple copper speaker terminal jumpers? Lost my originals.
@chrisr Easy to divide by 2; no other reason, just an e.g.
