5-10k budget... so many choices
The Kanta's were only introduced very recently, so it takes a bit of time for them to trickle down into reviews and showroom floors.  Looking at the adverts, I began to suspect that they were an expensive "lifestyle" model built for higher WAF.  G...
Grounding blocks, boxes and cables, what are you using?
I know this isn't quite the same, but any experience with Granite Audio?http://www.graniteaudio.com/zero/
Parasound Halo Integrated Buzz/Hum
The long and the short of this is that there are several variables here, and methodologically it's really hard to pin down exactly what is happening.1. AC quality coming into house varies.2. Design of particular brand/model will have more or less ...
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
Send the apprentice down to the store to pick up a couple of cans of tartan paint.
Ayre introduces the AX-8 integrated amp
Disappointing to see that so much of the engineering of the integrated is actually the "digital hub" unit.  In other words it's the QX-8 with a fairly low powered integrated thrown in to provide an all-in-one lifestyle solution.  And *not* the bab...
Faint speaker hiss
This.  All brands and models of amplifiers vary, as will individual examples of each.  Above all, don't go crazy throwing $$$ at this problem because you'll never eliminate it.  The most quiet integrated I've ever heard is the Ayre AX-7, probably ...
This is for Georgehifi especially but others can chime in.
@audiotroy I've experienced more than my share of overbearing, overly pushy, opinionated, hard sell hi-fi salespeople in the course of several decades of this hobby--our little world seems to abound in them, and I certainly wouldn't go out of my w...
Buyer wants copy of passport?
Don't even think about sending it.  It has scam written all over it.
Isotek EVO3 Sigmas
Although this mini-review doesn't seem to have spurred any real interest, report further adventures in power conditioning.I dragged home a Furman IT Reference 15i--50 lbs of isolation transformer.  Inserted in the system, it, like the Isotek, does...
Classical Music for Aficionados
Listened to the Scriabin.  The sound stage on the Ashkenazy recording on my system was magnificently set back, almost beyond the front wall behind the speakers.  When the piano came in, it was like exquisite, limpid, droplets of notes from the cle...
Classical Music for Aficionados
In similar vein, listened to a Dyson Chandos CD yesterday and wasn't bowled over.
What’s in your system today that you also had 10 years ago?
Acrotec 8N-A2080 IC's.
Has anyone purchased the new Elac Adante floorstanders yet?
What about the AF's?
This is for Georgehifi especially but others can chime in.
When time permits, I'm planning on a road trip from several states away to visit Johnny Ruttan's Audio Connection.  This based on his always helpful and constructive posts here, and a subsequent telephone conversation.  My route will include a wid...
Dynaudio vs Harbeth vs ProAc
@fast Check out @milpai's threads on his quest.  Ended up between Spendor D7/9 and ProAc, and he went ProAc.  If you're anywhere near New Jersey, be sure to visit audioconnection
