@anotherbob You really need to specify the power output range you need.  This will affect recommendations significantly. 
Remote Balance Control: on Tube Integrated Amp?
No one is going to motorize a conventional balance control.You need to find a unit with two volume controls, for left and right channels.  Rather like what Sonic Frontiers did with their preamps.But does this exist in a tube integrated?? 
The midi range, not the tweeter, is the most important driver in a speaker.
Let's pose this question another way:within the normal range of human hearing, how many octaves are typically handled by 1. the tweeter, 2. the mid-range, 3. the woofer?

Project recently came out with a $3K top-loader.  They're evidently still serious about this medium.  And it only reads Red Book.

Perhaps because mid-ranges can be great or just OK.Whereas tweeters can be very good or really obnoxious.So that's what draws the bulk of the attention.

Based on my auditioning of the BeAT and Encore, I'd endorse everything dep14 says about the SS 9.5.  Unfortunately haven't heard the other models he mentions.  Take a look over at the Salk forum on AudioCircle.
