TT/Cartridge recommendations for Dynamic Music? Well JD, you know what I think, but I can't say for sure how a non-suspended TT will fare in your particular application. I don't have any "jumping around" problems, but others might. I personally think that a quality non-suspended TT with no soft...
MC Transformer or phono stage - help anyone? All that a MC transformer will do, is to boost the gain from the cartridge signal into the phono stage. If your problems are not gain related, this will not help. Sometimes if the signal is not strong enough into the phono stage, it will result in...
REGA 3- Sounds better with dust cover ON of OFF ? Agree with above, especially Marakanetz. Remove the dustcover completely from the table during play, for best sound. Replace when finished.
Best 40 watt SET integrated for about $3500 I use a SET on my 100db speakers with a 2 watt per channel amp, and get plenty of volume. 40 watts is way overkill, and will not sound as good as lower power amps.
Help tame my Ekos I think you might want to raise the VTA some. By raising, I mean raising the arm pivot end up a little. Raising it will reduce bass boominess, and that sounds like what might be your problem.
rega rb300 wire Yes. If you've never re-wired a tonearm, better let the dealer do it for you.
preamp with phono, MC or MM with transformer? Nrenter, I have not auditioned the Wright unit, but I have read good things about it. It may be a good possiblity in that price category. Just as anyone else here, I have heard many things, but nobody can hear everything there is. That's why it's ...
preamp with phono, MC or MM with transformer? Herman, I am currently using a MFA Magus preamp with a Cotter step-up transformer. This is quite a nice setup, and I chose it because of much the same reasons that you are looking at. It was a good unit with an excellent phono stage at a reasonabl...
Dedicated phono cable or quality IC I think that with a high output MC cartridge, you will be ok with a good quality interconnect. Input impedance of 47k ohms on the phono input is quite high, and with a HO cartridge, your signal level is not all that tiny. I'd say just to keep the ...

Music Reference RM200 or David Berning ZH270? I think that since the Berning amps generally retain about 80% of retail value on the used market, it is worth it to just buy new. I agree that tube rolling is beneficial with these amps, just as it would be with just about any tube amp. Mfrs cann...
Dedicated phono cable or quality IC I think that cable upgrades anywhere in the system can give good benefits. I would say the earlier in the signal chain you can upgrade the cables, the better.
Can a single driver system like a Lowther DX-3 Bennett, I just checked that ad and they are sold. I don't know if you bought them or not. But I can tell you that those Tyler cabinets appear to be a bass-reflex design, and that is not the ideal enclosure design for the Lowther. However, they wi...

Can a single driver system like a Lowther DX-3 I am using Lowther EX3 in Voigt Pipes. I am running a 2 watt 45 amp. My room is 14'x24' with 16 foot vaulted ceiling. Also I have an open floorplan with little boundary area. I can fill the room quite well, and it sounds wonderful. However with th... |
