What's a good step-up transformer?
M.A. Cotter is a very good one. Also RWD, and Verion. Jensen are commonly used as built-in to many higher end preamps. Bent Audio sells the Stephens and Billington kits and assembled units. Ortofon, Denon, Shelter, all have outboard units. Lundahl...
Linn Audio Stands
That may be the Sound Organisation products. They have made numerous stand products for Linn in the past.
Personal amp evolution
I guess I have to add my new amp to my personal amp evolution list from last year. David Berning custom built 45 SET ZOTL. Totally awesome!
VTA Adjustment
4yanx has a Spacedeck. He will help you out with that one.
Benz Ruby 2 v.s. Shelter 901
Frank, , the term "compliance" relates to the flexibility of the suspension of the particular cartridge. Generally, a number of 12cu or under is considered low compliance. Low compliance means a stiff suspension, and often accompanies a heavier ca...
Review: Bluenote Bellavista Signature Turntable
Thanks for posting a nice review of a TT that many are not familiar with. This can be of good use for those who are looking out of the mainstream for their analog needs.
Benz Ruby 2 v.s. Shelter 901
The 901 has output of about .5mv, which I think is higher than the Benz. As far as which you'll like better, it depends upon your personal taste, and it may depend upon the arm you are using. The Benz would be a better match for most of the medium...
What to do?
Why don't you get a pair of Lowther EX3 and build a set of Voigt Pipes, and run them with your MicroZotl. That's what I did for awhile. They will easily fill your small room with great sound using the MicroZotl. They will be a little lighter in th...
can you tell me specs for hk-330i
It's a 20 watt per channel unit. High current amplifier design with pretty good headroom. Introduced 1982. Includes phono section, tape loop. I think it sold for around $199 new. It was a decent sounding little piece for the time period.
Best sounding 6SN7 VT231 for amplifier input
I'm using Sylvania in my SET amp. They sound great. I think Sylvania has the most transparent and twinkly high end.
Analog system
All of the above are good suggestions. I might add that if you want similar performance capability, but want to spend less money, the Teres 255 or 265 would be a good choice, and the Origin Live Illustrious Signature tonearm was just reviewed on t...
Nottingham Spacedeck Owners in Isolation
David, if you like the #4 silk bead cord, try some "Spectra" fishing line of about 15-pound test. This is a high-tensile strength material that they make bulletproof vests out of. It has absolutely zero stretch. This makes it a little bit touchy i...
Nottingham and Teres comparison
Well Ted, I'm not certain about it. I do know that the general reason for using an inverted bearing is to improve the platter center-of-gravity, with respect to the way the side-thrust forces are resolved. However, the inverted bearing typically d...
Review: Origin Live Illustrious Signature Tonearm
Bernd T., thanks for pointing out that distinction between the Illustrious and Illustrious Signature. I wasn't even aware of the Signature edition until now.
Review: Origin Live Illustrious Signature Tonearm
Great review! I have been recommending this tonearm for quite a while now, and it is nice to see someone actually enjoying it as much as you are. I wish I could afford to buy one myself. I currently use the OL Silver with some mods. Happy listening.
