Review: Decware Gizmo, make your Lowthers sing Tweak
Herman, I think I'm going to try a set of those next month when I get some money.
How do you get rid of loud crackling noise on Lps?
I got a record like that once, and it took several cleanings as well as a few playings, before it was anywhere near decent. I don't know what it was, but I think that somebody had done some kind of "protective" treatment to it, and really screwed ...
What's under YOUR turntable?
I have a hard maple straight-legged end table, topped with 3/4" thick granite slabs, with inch and a quarter thick MDF and formica countertop material over the granite. The TT sits on brass Audiopoints from Sistrum. Seems to work pretty well.
Boise, Idaho
Pat, does Las Vegas count as part of the Boise area? :^)
Any one try pa amplifiers for home stereo?
Drubin, I've never used the Meyer Sound, but heard good things about them. I actually did use some home gear on the stage, and it worked out real well. We didn't have any roadies throwing it into the backs of trucks or anything, but we handled it ...
Any one try pa amplifiers for home stereo?
No, but at one time I thought about using good home audio gear for the band, instead of the "pro-gear", in an attempt to get halfway decent sound on stage. :^)None of the stuff you mention there can even hold a candle to any reasonable "mid-fi" ho...
What tonearms are suitable for my Ariston RD 80?
I like the Ittok and had one for years. If you can spend the money, it is a very nice arm. I was just trying to keep my recommendations under the cost of your turntable.
What tonearms are suitable for my Ariston RD 80?
You should choose your tonearm based upon what types of cartridges you plan to use. The RB250 is probably the best tonearm available for the money right now, and will handle most cartridges. Unless you want to spend alot more, then the RB250 is th...
Isolation for turntable
David, all of my experiences have shown that the less "soft" material under the TT, the better. Preferably none. Hard materials that control vibration would be preferable to soft in a TT application. I strictly steer away from rubber, springs, air...
Isolation for turntable
I would say that if you can do without any soft isolation products, you would be better off without them. I feel that they compromise bass and dynamics. If you are not getting any feedback or having problems associated with such vibrations, don't ...
MC Transformer or phono stage - help anyone?
From my experiences, 70.5db total gain in the phono stage and linestage combined will not be sufficient for a .4mv output cartridge. I am using a cartridge with the same output, and I have 86db total gain. I am maybe a little too high on the gain ...
MFA Luminescence MC Reference preamp
It is an excellent preamp, highly regarded, and a classic. Of course, it is an older model, and would need some re-capping and such, to be what it was intended, and some mods have been found for improvement. They are fairly rare, and command high ...
Have anyone pics and tech-data for a SU-1 step-up?
Yes, Frank. We're not all like that here on Audiogon. You unfortunately got a "bad apple" out of the barrel. Sorry.
best sounding cartridge with VPI Scout Turntable
As Jax2 says, the Dynavector 17d2 is a low output MC cartridge, not MM. You likely using the wrong input on your phono stage. You'll need probably the highest gain setting the unit has to accept the Dynavector's low output.
