So I just bought a Hegel H390 and
I am considering a Hegel integrated for my system upgrade.  One of the things I have read about this line of amps is that they have the ability to drive many many speakers well.
Anybody else waiting for GaN and Purify to have a baby?
@jjss49 I really appreciate your taking the plunge to compare what a low cost GAN amp sounds like versus a much more pricey one. GAN seems to be the new exciting development in amplifiers and I'm definitely interested in hearing someone so experie...
Listening at Night vs. Day
I have always felt the sound is better at night, and have always wondered why this is the case.
Best preamp with built in phono stage?
I have thought that AVM is a home theater and video type of company.  I had no idea they make phono amps too.
Integrated Amps - another thread...
I still recall an early setup I had with Ads 810 speakers, I think I had a nice Sansui receiver that drove them. They sounded very nice, very easy to listen to, even when CD players came out and the sound could be very sharp and metallic sounding....
Very new to high end audio - Recomendations
A colleague has a set of Kef Ls50's, I think driven by a Musical Fideloty amplifier.  I felt the bass was amazing for such a small speaker but I thought the highs were too sharp and biting.
Quality 1 meter RCA Interconnects under $100?
I have had excellent luck with basic RCA cables made by Zu Audio.  They were purchased as close out or inventory left overs some time back, at a good discount, came out to well under $100 a pair.  They have fine sound and are very well built with ...

So how much do you think the placebo effect impacts our listening preferences?
I enjoy reading this thread, some very thought provoking posts here.  Except for the headphone stuff, which is just dumb.
Why have capacitors improved so much over the years?
I am not sure the best capacitors today vs 15-20 years ago are in fact better. It seems to me there is now a market for high grade fancy capacitors in the DIY hifi community, and so there are some smart companies who are riding that wave and marke...
What is the most important component to consider while building a new system?
I would definitely say it is the speaker first, especially in these times when there are many streaming based digital sources (D/A converters) with very clean and low distortion sound available for a reasonable and modest sum.  Not like the old da...
So how much do you think the placebo effect impacts our listening preferences?
I have read this discussion with some interest as I am considering upgrading headphones from my older Beyerdynamics model fairly soon, and I must say, @soix seems to be pretty much on the mark with his comments, which are more even handed and also...
Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2021
Thanks all who have replied.  I will watch developments over the next few weeks, may make the trek to be there.  I heard the last show in LA was a big bust, perhaps too early in the C19 recovery.
What's your dream speaker?
I heard a pair of Avalon Isis speakers in colleague’s home. He is a very serious hifi guy and a very good amatuer musician too. The sound of those speakers were very realistic and effortless. He played classical, jazz and blues music. They were dr...
Best Bang for your Buck DAC ?
I have a Soekris R-2-R Dac coming, I am excited to hear the improvements it may bring.  Very innovative small Danish company.
