Hearing Test
Geoffkait, try it with good cans. Traditionally this kind of test is designed for headphones.
Is high-end audio dying, if not dead already???
My favorite speaker company is still designing and building an outstanding product. I know there are high quality electronics out there. So IMO all is well--it's not a case of "audiogone."
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend?
Schubert, I put down the pipe over 20 years ago but, as Redd Foxx said when his doctor told him to quit eating pork, "Shit, I don't want to be lying up there in the hospital dying of NOTHING!"
Your last concert was to see who and when?
I like Mahler's 1st--a lot. I heard another Mahler (2nd?) symphony performed a few years back and it was like 90 minutes of driving through a Kansas wheatfield until the chorus sang for a minute and transported us all to a better place. It was not...
Why Do Musicians Still Need Record Companies?
Hey, Czarivey, I know a lot of other "disabled" people who don't have the luxury or fallback of being able to play music.
Who believes that Robert Plant
As evidenced by so many good answers, no on is best. I'd liked to mention a couple of guys with wide range: Arthur Brown and Captain Beefheart.
I would love some suggestions on great acoustic...
Manuel Barrueco--Albeniz/Granados, Vox LP also available in a 3 CD VOX set (I think it's called something like "400 years of Classical Guitar)
The Biggest Album Release of All Time...
The first time I heard U2 was the Live Aid broadcast. As with most of the UK acts I heard that day, I didn't think they were anything special and felt no need to hear them again. As they've evolved I have grown to appreciate their musicianship but...
Need some recommendations - hard driving big band
There's an old Buddy Rich album with "Birdland" on it--I think it's direct-to-disc. If I find it among my LP's I'll list the title for you. Or perhaps another member can help us out with this.
the greatest pop song ever?
Jebel, if it's the song I think it is--I think it was on the charts in the 60's before Sesame Street existed.
Anyone still playing on Cassette decks?
I don't have mine hooked up at present but I think it's fine for older pop stuff. The better the source recording the less I want to hear it on cassette.
Borodin String Qtt 2
Ptss, yes, I think composers are usually on their best behavior when writing a string quartet. Not sure why, but I'm glad for it.
What does music mean to your life/
As a lifelong music teacher who still plays the occasional club or cafe gig, music is huge in my life. I married another music teacher, my kids both play and most of my meaningful relationships arose from musical pursuits. Some of my students have...
Borodin String Qtt 2
I think I have 3 recordings of it--but I'm a quartet nut.
Borodin String Qtt 2
I thought it was a well-known piece. Another movement was pirated to make the pop tune "Baubles, Bangles and Beads."Regardless, it's a nice piece of music.
