Artists One Should Know
I saw Bill C. at SXSW some years back. It was in a nice-sounding church with Joanna Newsom on piano and Elizabeth Warren (no, not THAT Elizabeth Warren) on violin. Very impressive all-around.
Green and Clapton
The original FM band can't be beat. B.B. King has said that of the young white blues players "Peter Green is the only one who has made me sweat."I think Z Z Top and Los Lobos borrow heavily from these guys from time to time. I will never stop list...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Georgepv, you're right--there's nothing like a Tommy Emmanuel show. Part vaudeville and part old-time tent revival held together by the most incredible guitar playing imaginable. With the passing of Paco de Lucia, Tommy may be the undisputed king ...
In Santana we trust
Doesn't sound like Jimmy to me. Possibly Kim.
In Awe of "Yessongs" Forty Years Later
Yessongs never grabbed me but I love The Yes Album and Close to the Edge. Saw the group live with 2nd Mahavishnu Orch around '75 or so. Good show.Did anyone catch the recent tour where they played 3 entire LP's in succession (the two I mentioned p...

Miner42 are you sure about the vocals? Kim Wilson was the vocalist in the T-birds, not JV.
Some irrefutable truths about rock and roll
I still love the Beach Boys, through Pet Sounds and beyond ( but not all of the stuff w/o Brian).Mick Taylor's alright, but if you listen to the John Mayall stuff (I'm thinking of Primal Solos, off hand)--he's no Peter Green. He was a good fit for...
Interesting bilind testing of Stradivarius Violin
Schubert, that's good. I had heard he was from Venus. That must have been a very interesting lunch. One of his trumpet players (Martin Banks) moved here to live out his "golden years." Nice guy, good player.
How many of your play instruments?
Singlendedsingle: what is your budget--and do you want to start with acoustic or electric? Some info about your musical preferences might help as well.
Your last concert was to see who and when?
I forgot to say: it was April of this year.
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Probably a local swing band with Elana James (from Hot Club of Cowtown) on fiddle and vocals, Paul Glasse on mandolin and vocals, Terry Hale on bass, and a "nameless" drummer and steel guitar player (he was an ex-Ernest Tubbs sideman). The music w...
How many of your play instruments?
Guitar--classical and pop styles, a bit of everything except flamenco. Have played electric guitar in bands at venues in the largest cities of the US. Violin and viola--classical, just well enough to play at weddings. Mandolin and dobro--well enou...

Schubert: "musicians are not from mars..."Aren't you forgetting Jimi Hendrix?
CSNY Live 1974
That does sound like an amazing show. Reminds me of the tour some of us on Agon saw in the late 60's--Beach Boys and Buffalo Springfield (Stills and Young).
Some irrefutable truths about rock and roll
Shubertmaniac, old folks who were interviewed in the 60's or so said that Robert Johnson borrowed much of his material from predecessors (some, such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, were recording in the "teens"). As great as he was, I think too much is ...
