Goldmund Studietto
I had a Goldmund Studietto thirty years ago. It had the Goldmund T-5 linear tracking arm. It was the best looking table ever, but I was glad to sell it. I don't remember which cartridge I used with it, probably a Grado, but I could never get it to...
Can someone recommend replacement tubes for my MFA MAGUS A2 Preamplifier please?
As an impulse, I just bought an Audible Illusions L-1 preamp here on Audiogon. It’s like new and I paid around $800. I paid $750 for my MFA Magus a few years ago. I would try to find a competent local tech to repair your MFA. $800 is just a lot to...
Ok guys
Obviously, that's your opinion and opinions are like...well, you know.
Ok guys
"...so that it could be opened to actually place an album on the platter and then play it open or closed and see which they prefer" (uberwaltz)Thanks for the BFO, uberwaltz. Any other other pearls of wisdom?"Look, it's your table...do what you wan...
Ok guys
If the table has a hinged dustcover, it should be down. Look, it's your table...do what you want! I am sure that the reason that manufacturers included a hinged dustcover was so that it could be closed while in use.
What's up with TMR Audio?
I finally broke down and bought something from TMR. The rating of the item was 9/10, which turned out to be the correct rating. They were easy to deal with, even on a holiday weekend. I would do business with them anytime.
Pair of 1530's to repair and sell or just sell
If they were in better condition, I’d be interested. Those speakers had a very transparent sound as I recall. Too bad about the condition. As I recall those speakers sold new for around $2500. The Audiogon Blue Book shows around $700 (in decent sh...
Bose 901
Back in the 60/70's, my audiophile cousin had a pair of Bose 901s. We were both new to the hobby, but I did enjoy hearing how the speakers spread the sound to give the impression of much bigger speakers. The EQ box was obviously a contributing fac...
Need advice
Based on your budget, you probably can't go wrong with that $149 Marantz mentioned above. Spend the leftover $50 on cassettes from a local thrift store or used record store. Check to be sure the used cassettes still have the felt pressure pad, oth...
Need advice
This is an easy one. Don’t bother looking for a Tandberg or Revox, they aren’t available. I look all the time and never find them. Do the smart thing and buy a higher end Nakamichi. You won’t be disappointed! I recommend the Dragon, CR-7A, ZX-9, Z...
Can someone recommend replacement tubes for my MFA MAGUS A2 Preamplifier please?
Here's a suggestion: call Scott Frankland (the F in MFA) and ask him directly. I spoke with him yesterday about my Magus preamp and he is very helpful. His number is (408) 926-6731.

Help- audiophile husband just dies
Julie, I am sincerely sorry for your loss. My best advice is not to do anything in a hurry. When you feel up to it, record the brands and model numbers for future reference. Take some time to contact some of the people named above. Albert Portis, ...
Just Curious - About using a AV Receiver as main unit
I'm sure it goes without saying, but I was talking about buying your A/V receiver on the used market.
Just Curious - About using a AV Receiver as main unit
If money is tight while you're building your system, then an A/V receiver is fine to start. You can find them cheap (sometimes very cheap) on a variety of websites. I have seen them for 10% of their original price. Try to get one from a well-known...
