Cardas lightning 15 vs. Wireworld gold starlight 5
Sorry not to be able to reply directly to your question.I had a 0.5m GS 5 and loved it, but a 1.5m length of another one ( you don't want to read about it ) beat the GS.UHF Magazine says the relatively inexpensive Atlas Opus is even better than th...
Need help generating a short list
Well I don't know if they'll recreate the dynamic impact of a drum kit but Triangle make some very lively, quick-sounding speakers and your price would cover a model with a fair bit of woofer area. They're efficient, too, so you get more headroom ...
effect of tubes in cd players
I can't say it changes the sound of CD players generally--players are all different, and anyway you can't put tubes into a solid-state one to see if it changes the sound. (OK I lied, there was once an AMC unit you could do that with, and it was sa...
Power converter
As long as your converter can handle two or three times the preamp's current draw it will work fine. (Preamps don't draw a lot of current anyway.) And not only will it work fine, it will almost certainly sound better than it would with a 230V supp...
Power converter
I am sure Arni's experience has been as he describes. However for me, using an isolation transformer on seven different digital sources to date has in every case transformed the sound, improving it immensely in my view. Those sources were: Philips ...
Power converter
What Nsgarch said. And if it WILL work with 60Hz, the stepdown device has a good chance of improving the sound. A simple transformer is best (with no extra conditioning or regulation). Make sure it has some overcapacity so there is no chance of co...
Best Cartridge for Rega RB 300 and RB1000 ?
Oregon, I've never heard the 103, sorry.FWIW I've heard Dynavector carts in other people's RB300s and liked them a lot, especially the 17D2. BTW if you haven't had your RB300 rewired, it is very much worth it IME.
Used TT, Arm and Cartridge
Chadnliz says a Sota--sure, or any of the other makes you mention. They are all good, and they each have different sound qualities. Myself, I have a Linn, which is noted for its rhythm and drive. There are folks here who use all of them. If you ca...
Best Cartridge for Rega RB 300 and RB1000 ?
I had a Benz Glider and then a Cardas Heart Reference on my RB300 when I had it. They both retailed for more than the arm, the Heart especially, but they sounded great. The Heart is also a Benz, by the way.
Best arm for quick swapping cartidges? Mid price?
A Graham 1.5 might be a bit too expensive for you, used, but it would certainly do what you want.

Options to upgrade from Cambridge Integrated
I agree with Ehart when he says the AR is smoother and less forward than the Cambridge. I don't think you have to go with separates to better any of the integrated amps he lists. I think there are other integrated amps--Qinpu, Vecteur, SimAudio, p...
Options to upgrade from Cambridge Integrated
I second the Audio Refinement Complete. I like it better than the NAD integrateds (and I like the NADs better than the Cambridge amps). Others to consider would be solid-state amps from Creek and Rega.I would also consider inverting the priorities...
High Definition CD or HDCD - What is it exactly?
HDCD is a brilliant scheme which encodes extra audio information in the dithering signal present on all Redbook CDs.The dither is put there to increase the number of bits in the lowest-level signals and thus improve resolution. On normal CDs it co...
Balanced/Unbalanced --- Whats the difference?
An unbalanced cable has two conductors (wires)--one for the signal, the other for ground.A balanced cable uses two conductors plus the ground for a total of three. The extra conductor in the balanced cable carries an inverted version of the audio ...
