Power cable for tube output cdp
I've found the Acoustic Zen El Nino to do good things with my tubed CDP, a JAS Audio Musik 1.2
Selling to someone in another country
Shipping of any audio gear to and from Canada has to involve brokerage and taxes, unfortunately. As for duty, goods made in North America benefit from the NAFTA exemption, others are charged about 7%.The best way to simplify the process is to use ...
it's the ac.....
I think Kyle's point is very interesting, possibly true, but I can also say that even back in 1974 the Metro Toronto AC line was not what the specs would lead you to expect. Voltage varied with time of day, there were spikes and dips, and there wa...
Playing Customs Games with Our Northern Neighbors
Fees on goods going to Canada:N.A.-manufactured:GST (Goods & Services Tax) + PST (Provincial Sales Tax) + brokerage + shippingMade outside North America:Duty + GST + PST + brokerage + shippingDuty, if any, and taxes are charged on the declared...
Playing Customs Games with Our Northern Neighbors
Just to underline the point: Canadians pay taxes, not duty, on audio gear made in North America. These can vary but the 14% mentioned is typical. On gear from outside North America, taxes are charged and duty is also charged; the maximum duty is j...
Small monitors good at low listening levels?
My Triangle Titus ES sound very good at low levels, which is how I usually listen to them (bedroom system). I especially like that they maintain frequency balance well.
Digital Cables and Analog...interchangable?
Digital are 60 ohm and analog stereo 75? Here I've been thinking proper impedance for digital interconnects was 75 ohm, at least for SP/DIF.
DAC under $1K
The Kora Hermes is a very nice DAC which responds well to NOS tubes.
DAC under $1K
An Apogee DA-1000E like mine.
Bass traps
Kal is of course right ("throwing in traps is not the way"), but I would just like to throw in that I tried something Jon Risch suggests along those lines. He mentions that you can buy a couple of bags of pink fibreglass and stick them in the corn...
B&W DM-12
Bypassing or replacing the spring terminals wouldn't hurt. I had DM14s (the contemporaneous two-woofer model) and I did it on them. It helped--just not a lot. On the DM14 there are other obstacles to music placed between the input terminals and th...
Replacing a 2-pin hardwire with an IEC terminal
Thanks, Listener57, the AC cord kit looks very interesting and of course there's lots more great stuff at the Mapleshade site, including music!
Replacing a 2-pin hardwire with an IEC terminal
Gabe, you'll need a hole in the rear panel big enough to accept an IEC outlet. This is the biggest part of the mod you propose. If an appropriate hole is not there already you'll have to make one. You may get lucky and find you can just take out t...
Need help understanding tube wpc
My rule of thumb is 50% -- that is, for a given speaker, you probably need 50% of the ss watts if you run tubes. It's only a worst-case rule though: if the ideal ss power is 120 wpc, you may be able to get by with 60 tubed watts. (Better to have t...
Walls, ceilings, floors -- neighbors and sound
If you do use lead sheeting, make sure to ground it or you may get RFI. UHF Magazine didn't do it when they lined their listening room with lead, and one of the preamps they tested apparently picked up Radio Moscow as a result.
