The Kind Leading the Blind
Many, many thanks for this post, Howard. It has made my Christmas much merrier.Curiously, I listened to the most musical (digital) system I had ever heard a week ago. It was assembled by a gentleman who has been steadily losing his vision througho...
Cleaner for volume control
Kirkus, thanks for the benefit of your experience. I'll follow your lead on pot cleaning.
Cleaner for volume control
The great thing about the Caig FaderLube that Timnaim so firmly recommended, above, is that it not only cleans theo pot, it lubricates the conductive plastic inside so it won't dry out again in a hurry. You can hear the grunge go away after you us...
Audiomat Opera/Recital
Well over three years after this thread began, my 2 cents. First, UHF Magazine has a review of the RĂ©cital and so does 6Moons. I heard it a couple of days ago in an extended listen. As it was for Psc, above, the music stayed in my head for days af...
What cartridges under $800 outperform DL-103R?
Second the recommendation for the Audio Technica AT33PTG. I've been able to listen to both this cart and the 103 in the same TT (Scheu Premier MkII/Scheu Cantus) and the 33PTG got my vote easily.
A Question About Audio Racks
Washline, Thom Mackris of Galibier Design has a post on another thread which has led me to a part of his site which could be very pertinent to your issue. If you go to the Galibier site and check out the following page :http://www.galibierdesign.c...
A Question About Audio Racks
Nice to see a post from Lak, above. I agree with both his and Stanwal's points. It seems to me the move you are considering won't deal with the key issue, which is the material of the shelves. Every good shelf I have seen or heard has used wood or...
Who was your first
Miles Davis, Kind of Blue, in 1966. I was already into audio; this disc just made me think I could learn to like jazz.
Overhang question
Chris, there are a number of alignment protractor configurations that have inner and outer positioning guides like your DB Systems gauge. One such configuration, the Baerwald, is the classic and most popular. (Others include the Lofgren and Steven...
Overhang question
"I suppose it is more important to get the overhang correct even if the measured spindle to pivot distance deviates a bit (a few mm's) from the specified value."Chris, do the spindle to pivot distance adjustment with your alignment protractor in p...
Overhang question
"Should I adjust the spindle to pivot distance a bit so the overhang could be set correctly?"Yes, Chris, that ought to work.
Parsifal Ovation VS Egglestonworks Andra II
I have not compared them to-to-toe but I have listened at some length to them both independently and IMHO so should you. They are quite different-sounding speakers. Both are extremely involving musically, providing a very rich listening experience.
"Fun" Speaker As An Alternative To Revel Salon I
Sonus Faber and Harbeth, yes. Both tend to be on the expensive side IMHO but it's not my budget, obviously, and if you're looking at those then, like John, I'd also say try Verity Audio. For a "fun" speaker my 2 cents says try Triangle.

A spousal revelation ... and a tall order. Help
A bit of room treatment and the perfect setup will do more for imaging than you or your partner can imagine. There are many sources for info. The absolute best is having a magician come to your house and do it before your eyes and ears. Magicians ...
