CDP to DAC cable
Depending on the connectors used, the VH Audio cryo Pulsar is a very nice digital cable for under or about your stated price. I found that a 1.5 meter length gave best resolution.http://www.vhaudio.com/interconnects.htmlIt takes a long long time t...
What has been your most satisfying component?
I'm on record up there as loving my LP12 Lingo, but I have been unfaithful and the Sondek has left me. I have a Scheu now and I will keep it forever... yeah, right.Still have my Klyne preamp, though.Nutella, what say?
What is your favorite type of tweeter?
I have always had a soft spot for the Heil tweeter. It hasn't made its way into many commercial designs, I suspect because it's very hard to make a crossover to match it well to a cone woofer. The Oskar speakers are exceptional for their highs IMHO.
Worth upgrading powercord for Denon AVR 4308ci?
A power cord with better connectors will improve performance even on an electric kettle. There's no reason not to try out a better cord on your Denon, just don't spend too much money. Keep 90%+ of your savings for the unit that will replace the De...
Looking for Polarity Invert Feature...
My older Klyne SK-5 preamp has a polarity invert position on the front panel. I don't know if the current models ( System 6 and System 7 ) have retained it.
Review of Totem Speakers
The Wind and the defunct Shaman is and were, respectively, the tops of the Totem line and far from cheap, so their market is/was relatively smaller than the other models'. Maybe that's why the reviews are not plentiful. I know UHF Magazine reviewe...
Speaker shock absorbers
If you have to go upscale, as I did, you might like to know that Herbie's Grounding Bases worked very well under my spiked floorstanders... at a price.
How thick is the limit?... never heard anyone say?
As I understand it from playing the mailing tube and the wine glass, anything will resonate, and at several frequencies from the fundamental up. The exact frequencies depend on the size and composition of the resonating object.Musical instruments ...
Anybody else tried these cheap cables?
Thanks Pugstub, I found the ones you meant. The prices are certainly good, although shipping adds a fair whack. Worth a try.
Anybody else tried these cheap cables?
Pugstub, I've taken a look but I can't find any single crystal cables at that URL. I found the English button, and then there were lots of Bruce Lee DVDs, a chat page and some of that cool entry-level Trends and iPod gear that I would be into for ...
Sound through Macbook vs DAC
So, jasonparmenter, does budget allow? How much would my budget have to be to buy methe new emmLabs DAC 2 CD/SACD (If Budget Allows)?
How thick is the limit?... never heard anyone say?
Krellman, thanks for asking. I actually haven't found anything I like better. My attempt at a joke, above, was meant to convey that 4 inches was a bit too much for me aesthetically. The Mapleshade site mentions even thicker ones as possible and ef...
Sound through Macbook vs DAC
An alternative to the Benchmark for the same or less money is the Apogee Mini-DAC. Although the Benchmark is extraordinary, if you are one of those folks who find it too analytical, the Apogee will probably please you.
How thick is the limit?... never heard anyone say?
I had 3-inch thick maple platforms made for my Shanling tube amps. I set them up the way Mapleshade advises, with (factory) brass spike feet into the wood above and resilient feet (Isonodes) below. What an improvement that was--bass, midrange clar...
Cartridge Left Channel Dead
mybuddy, that's great news. The Excel is a highly regarded cart and I'm glad you're going to be able to keep it running.
