Would love some thoughts on how to upgrade my gear Your gear sounds pretty well tuned from your description. The next step up may well come at some cost.I have never really heard any high end gear so I don't know how mine stacks up.So, as long as this is the case, buying anything is taking a chanc...
Tube Amp recommendation for Quad 988 I heard those speakers with a Cary V12 at a Montreal show. Very nice indeed. So when I see there's a pair of AES Six Pack monoblocks posted here, I think, oh, those might be worth considering.I use a pair of Audio Space Nova M34 monoblocks myself....
What would you buy Sub $350 Firewire/USB DAC An iso transformer would plug into your AC supply. Then you plug your DAC's power cord into the tranny. This eliminates much of the pollution on your DAC's AC line. The transformer accepts 120V and puts out the same voltage. No actual transformatio...
BNC or Coax? Kijanki, it's my understanding that there is no such thing as a true 75 ohm RCA plug, even though there are manufacturers like Canare who claim they make one. My experience and knowledge are small, however. Do you know of any true 75 ohm RCAs spec...
BNC or Coax? Musicman, beyond "secure", BNC connectors are designed to maintain constant impedance in the connection: 75 ohms.
Help in setting up my first sound system I have 4 pieces of Chinese gear: two Audio Space monoblock amplifiers, an Audio Space integrated amp and a JAS Audio CD player. In my humble opinion these offer extraordinary value for money; I don't know where you would find equivalent sound and ...
What would you buy Sub $350 Firewire/USB DAC I'll bet you can tame that forward high end by running the DAC from an isolation transformer. Even a cheap one.
Linn amps with Keilidhs- will 2 x 140's make a dif Probably you have already noticed the difference between the two amps. The LK140 has more energy and drive. Two of them would be very nice with Keilidhs, and you can certainly go active with them if you can find the crossovers.
Help in setting up my first sound system I think your best bet is to get a good book on the subject. UHF Magazine has two, and then there's Robert Harley's guide.UHF booksRobt. Harley's Guide
BNC or Coax? As Almarg says, coax is a cable. The name is a short form of "co-axial", which means that the central conductor and the woven shield share the same axis in cross-section.Also as he says, you can fit an RCA connector or a BNC connector to a coaxial...
Floorstanders designed to be against the wall? North Creek has a floorstanding model of the Kitty Kat now. Called the Big Kat. MTM configuration. About the same price as the Kitty !North Big Kat
Where to next? From LP12 to what 3-4000 TT? I went from an LP12 Lingo to a Scheu Premier Mark II with 80mm platter. The Scheu (pronounced "shoy") is very easy to work with. There's a review coming in the next issue of UHF Magazine, due out in a week or so.
?TT upgrade from most basic to next step-up / tube You'll get lots of ideas on this but if it were me I'd consider a Scheu Cello the next step up, at around the $1K mark for the TT and then either a Rega or the Scheu Classic arm. Cart could be a Denon 103 if you have a MC phono stage. If you want t...
Which budget digital cable ? Certainly, most of what I have read stresses the importance of jitter rejection/immunity at the DAC end, presumably becuase changing interconnect cable lengths might work on some equipment but not otherIn S/PDIF, timing is set by the transport's c...
Which budget digital cable ? Almarg, I have posted on this simple measure a few times now because its benefits are great compared to the cost involved. Yours is the most useful and enlightened response I have yet read. Thanks in turn for it.I first heard about the phenomenon ... |
