From LP12 to where...?
I liked my LP12 Lingo a lot but gave it up after a misadventure with the wrong arm (Graham: too heavy) and the setup problems that resulted. Sort of wish I had kept my first LP12 Valhalla/SME IIIs/Shure V15 because it was great for what it cost, b...
To DAC or not to DAC...
I did a careful comparison of the Benchmark DAC-1 with the Apogee Mini-DAC, in a pal's system using GamuT electronics and Gradient speakers. The transport was by Sonic Frontiers. The two DACs sounded quite different. Although both could be lyrical ...
My record gain knobs make alot of noise need help
The best cleaner I know for this application is Caig FaderLube. IME the grunge comes back with other stuff, but not with the Caig.
How do you negotiate a cure for wrong audio view
Blackstonejd, I think calling it a disease is an expression of guilt. Audiophile guilt comes from (among other things perhaps) doubts over neglecting work and family, overspending or the feeling that preoccupation with the hobby may be covering up...
Most Important?
Regardless of the numbers, as long as my speakers weren't so poor that they were toxic to the music, I would spend all I could on the source *and plan for downstream upgrades later*.I think that's the point in the source-first/speakers-first argum...
Recommended CD player below 1.5K
I love music in concert hall (warm) rather than in recording studio (details). That's very much like the difference between the Apogee Mini-DAC (warm) and the Benchmark (details).
Recommended CD player below 1.5K
Tobias, does the JAS player have a coax digital output?Hi Tvad, yes it does (I went and checked).
Recommended CD player below 1.5K
I have been very pleased with my JAS Audio Musik 1.2 player. It has a tubed output stage with one 12AX7 in it and another tube is used in the rectifier. The player has HDCD too. The remote is solid and the buttons are easy to find. Sound is detail...
Opinions on budget TT
I'd want to consider the Scheu Cello with that budget.http://www.hudsonaudioimports.com/products_scheu.htm
Bedroom speakers
I had a pal with a pair of those Allisons. He never mounted them properly so they never had any bass to speak of. The rest was nice, though. What about a pair of vintage Dynaco A25s? They might be a bit easier to find than the Allisons.
First jump into tubes... need help in Hong Kong
I have an Audio Space AS-3i in my second system. I am very satisfied indeed with it and do not feel that it will hold back any speakers at your price point; indeed you need not hesitate to go a good way higher with speakers if, eventually, you are...
DAC to add warmth and fullness to Linn Ikemi
Having heard the Ikemi (and liked it very much) I am sure that the Apogee Mini-DAC as well as the Kora Hermes would provide similar detail.Since your budget appears to have swollen overnight, Frank115, I'll add one more unit to the list: the Stell...
DAC to add warmth and fullness to Linn Ikemi
I agree with Ckoffend that the Kora Hermes is a nice-sounding DAC, especially with NOS tubes. The tubes would be key to getting the warmth you want and for that I'd try Mullard or Amperex.Another one to listen to would be the Apogee Mini-DAC. Warm...
CDP to DAC cable
Fishboat, the Canare cable Jhold recommends would be my entry-level choice, as long as it had good connectors. I used a 1.5m version of it for a while and was impressed, in fact I think I still have it.The extra half meter costs very little and ma...
College student stuck w/ bad speakers: advise pls
I'd like to third the Triangles, with Aball's recommendation of the Titus ES (if I have that right) at the head of the line for budget and size reasons. Comète has more bass but is bigger and will cost you more. If you could get them on sturdy sup...
