Music Hall CD-25.2 vs NAD CD 542
Although I haven't heard either of these models, I did own both predecessors. I preferred the NAD. It just seemed more natural and easier to listen to for my ear.
Onix Speakers
Go to eCoustics.com and search Onix. Several speaker reviews there.
are spike threads standard for speakers legacy
Suggest you try a few different screws to find the correct size. While not all speakers have identical spikes, they are a standard screw. I have done the grinding thing and it sounds easier than it is to get a good symmetrical point. Good luck.
What is the best $1000 CD Player?
I'm making an assumption that you appreciate the HDCD function of the Arcam. Look at a used Cary 300-200 or Resolution Audio CD-55.
upgrade TT or speakers??
How large is your room? Although as Narrod says, the 2CE signature is better here's my qualifier. I had a pair of 1Cs in a small room and upgraded to the 2CE sigs a while back. Big mistake for me as the larger Vandys did not work as well as the 1C...
Best sounding for MMG
$300 isn't much money but I recently sold a Sony TA-F707ES 90 watt integrated for less than $300. This is an outstanding amp for the money. It had no problem driving a pair of power hungry Eminent Technology LFT-8As in my system. Good luck.
Large room but not large budget-suggestions please
mctigues, that was an excellent article! Thanks.
The proverbial "giant killer"
If you are still researching a speaker purchase you owe it to yourself to look into Polk Audio's LSi series. Polk has the economic advantage to build quality speakers at affordable prices. I don't know about "giant killers" but definitely high val...
Remote volume control for preamp?
Used Cary, Linn Genki, or Resolution Audio. I recently got a good deal on a Resolution Audio CD-50 with remote volume control. I know it's overused but with the CD-50 I swear I hear new things in my favorite cds. I actually find myself replaying s...
The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones
Fatparrot is correct. Imagine a history course on the last half of the 20th century. The Beatles would figure prominently on many levels while the Stones may get mentioned as influential musicians. My kids and grandkids are familiar with Beatles mu...
Has your gear ever hurt you???
Lost a toenail on the corner of an amp 20 years ago. I was moving things around one night and forgot the amp was in the middle of the floor the next morning when I walked out into the living room. It still hurts when I think about it now.
Large room but not large budget-suggestions please
Of the speakers on your list I've owned only the Vandersteens. They were way too large for the room I had at the time so they never got a fair evaluation. That being said, I'm going to recommend you check out the Polk Audio LSi-15. These speakers ...
First song to "Blow You Away"...
I was driving down I-65 today when Dylan's "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" came on the radio. It took me back to 1965 or 66 when I was riding home from the store with Mom and "Like a Rolling Stone" came on the radio. We got home before the song end...
First song to "Blow You Away"...
This question made me think hard (ouch). I guess I have to say almost any song from The White Album. Makes me wonder how many times I listened to it start to finish.
Looking for CD player with volume control?
Resolution Audio CD-50 and CD-55 players have volume control and HDCD as bonus. Great sounding units.
