Any suggestions for good obscure music?
Well I have purchased several of the artists mentioned above. Some take a little work to get into. Once the work is done the rewards are worth it.Zane, no offense intended but I wouldn't consider Bowie obscure. I bought "Ziggy Stardust" back in 72...
Widest soundstage
I've only listened to Halcyon Days a couple times, never too critically. Harbor Lights is my favorite Hornsby cd.There are a couple of very deep/wide cuts on XTC's "Oranges and Lemons." Of course if you want really wide there's always Roger Waters...
best songs to discern a good system
Just ordered "Honey In the Lion's Head" from cdbaby.com. That one isn't listed on the Red House Records sight. Thanks for the info.
Monitors Suggestions for my setup
Check out Polk Audio LSi-9s. I've owned a few Paradigm speakers, the last were Studio 60v2. The tweeter on these Polks is so smooth compared to the 60s. What surprises me about the Polks is how they can demonstrate such detail and imaging and yet ...

What cd is the Greg Brown track on? Thanks.
what are some of the best amplifiers
The gestalt is good; have you heard the gestalt special edition? It'll blow your mind.
Naim: Integrated & CDP vs. Creek : Int & CDP
Hard to imagine going wrong with either.
Unable to audition used speakers a problem
Rockadanny, I have purchased more than a few pairs of floor standers and for all but one pair they've been local pick up. When selling them I have always insisted on pick up or delivery. Have yet to ship a large speaker. Damage is my primary concern.
Unable to audition used speakers a problem
I've sold a few speakers locally, some auditioned, some not. The last speakers I sold that were auditioned made me want to back out of the sale. The buyer played them MUCH louder than I ever listened to them. They sounded fantastic loud. As for bu...
Kind of a dumb question...
What about a third possibility? No preference because no difference noticed.
Newfound respect for McIntosh
Outstanding review! I concur with your idea that equipment quality directly relates to amount of time listening. When components degrade the sound, sometimes the only indication is a lack of interest in listening.
Good Speakers for Low Watts
NHT SB-2 or SB-3. I used a pair of the 3s with a 50 watt Audio Refinement Complete. Very smooth sound and good at low volume.
How far out there are you?
When I discovered Agon four years ago I was like the kid in a candy store. Sometimes changing equipment before taking time to evaluate it. Amps, dacs, cd players, speakers, and cables lined up waiting for a turn. It was fun but I'm glad it's over....
Small monitors good at low listening levels?
As you have a couple of floor standers on your list I'm recommending Meadowlark Audio Kestrel Hot Rods. They don't come up here as often as they used to but are wonderful speakers at low volume. I also owned the VR-1s and thought they were pretty ...
Vandersteen 2Ce Signature or Quad 22L
I owned the Vandy 2CE sigs and thought they sounded wonderful. The only problem is they are physically imposing in a small room. Your room is near the limit so be aware of this.
