bel canto vs classe amps
I've owned the Classe CAP-151 integrated, the Bel Canto s300, and am currently listening to the Bel Canto eVo2i. The Classe came across as dull and lifeless (boring) compared to the eVo2i. The soundstage is much deeper and three dimensional with t...
Which new OPPO DVD player is the one to get?
I purchased a 980 a week ago to use as a transport into a Bel Canto DAC2. So far so good. I haven't used the audio outs from the unit nor have I used dvd.The 980 also has a USB connection but I haven't used that either and don't know it's purpose....
Most important component??
Chad is 100% correct. I inherited my daughter's room when she went to college last fall. The room had bare walls when I put my system in place; sound was terrible. After experimenting with room treatment in different locations the sound has improv...
Replacement for adcom 535II?
I had a B&K ST-120, the older series, a while back that began humming. I replaced the power supply filter caps for about $40 and no more hum. I think I got lucky there. Might be worth a try.
Best Towers Under $4,000 / pair
Well if your starting a new search you should look at the Revel Performa line.
Using Krell rca & bal outputs for the same channel
After looking at the manual I would use the rca line level (preamp) outputs from the Krell in to the sub and the XLR (balanced) output from the krell in to the amp for your main speakers. This will send full signal to both sub and speakers. Not at...
Room Acoustics overkill or worse?
That sounds like a very lively room! As to the specific question, I can attest that too much treatment can degrade the sound. I moved my system into an untreated room with absolutely nothing on any wall or window. It was like an echo chamber in th...
Using Krell rca & bal outputs for the same channel
I did the exact same thing as Rwwear but had no preamp. The XLR outputs of the cdp were sent directly to the power amp while the rca outputs went to the sub. Both cdp outputs are variable so no preamp is needed. It was not difficult to get the sub...
Incorporating Sub into two channel stereo
I'm not certain whether or not both outputs of your preamp can be used simultaneously but the one preamp I owned with both sets of outputs could be used that way. You should check the manual on it to be sure.
Any good stereo shops in Dayton or Cincinnati Ohio
Don't recall the name of the place in Kettering, but I stopped in to listen to Vandersteens a couple of years ago and was treated well. They spent time letting me hear the 1C, 2CE sigs, and the 3As. Very nice. I think I found them on Vanderteen's ...
Incorporating Sub into two channel stereo
If you use the balanced outputs from the preamp into the amp you can use the unbalanced preamp outputs into the sub. Some prefer using speaker connections and others prefer preamp connections. If you have the option, you should try both to see whi...
All time favorite speaker cables
Audioquest cables probably won't get much mention as they've become too mainstream but the first cable I tried and had an "ah hah" reaction was the original Audioquest Slate. They seemed to add a sense of depth to my system that only solid core ca...
Nice match for Silverline SR12 monitors??
The only brand on your list I've owned is NAD. The C-352 is a nice, warm sounding amp. My current set up includes a pair of Silverline SR-11s paired with a Bel Canto evo2i integrated. That is one sweet sounding pair, extremely romantic. Congrats o...
How do you perform a burn in on a tonearm cable?
Bake at 450 for 35-45 minutes should do the trick.Leave them in for an extra 10 minutes if you like them "well done."
Classical speakers that do violins well??
The most revealing speaker I've owned that doesn't hurt my ears is the Revel M-20. Not sure it's bass is adequate for full tilt orchestra. You might look into the larger Performa series speakers that use similar drivers with additional woofers.
