How often do you swap out equipment in general
I'll make impulse purchases just to try out the latest thing; most recently a pair of Usher S-520s, a Bel Canto dac2 and an Oppo 980. I listened to the Ushers for a while just for a change and sold them at very little loss. The Oppo and dac2 will ...
The most haunting music you ever heard?
"John Wayne Gacey, Jr." by Sufjan Stevens. When Sufjan sings "oh my God," if you don't get goose bumps, your dead. No pun intended. Also Jeff Buckley singing "Mojo Pin."
fuses - the $39 ones or the 85 cent ones
The best advice so far is to get the cheapo fuses first to make there are no problems with amp. Then if you insert the uber fuse let us know the results. What kind of fuses does the amp use? Doesn't Radio Shack carry them?
Give Up?
I was going to guess stuck gangley joint. Uncle!
Paradigm Monitor series vs Studio series
After looking at your system page I'd say your room will dictate what you can do and expect. As it looks like you will do your serious listening nearfield, a small pair of monitors should suffice. This is where I agree with Cruz123; find a pair of...
Please suggest integrated for large space
I've owned the Roksan Kandy III and don't believe it will do it for you. How about the Musical Fidelity A-5 integrated. They are close to your price (used). Also, there are quite a few listed. If that doesn't scare you away the 250 watts per side ...
Beatles covers: better than originals?
Finding covers that best the originals is extremely difficult, IMO. But I'll offer a second for the Joe Cocker version of "With A Little Help From My Friends" as I actually think it's a better rendition. The only other Beatles cover that I feel be...
Best jazz covers of rock songs
David Lahm - "On Joni Mitchell." I'm not a jazz enthusiast but I enjoy this one.
Anticables Review
Kontrabass, thanks for the honest assessment.I concur with the sentiment expressed by Tvad. My experience with swapping cables is that I usually hear an immediate difference which seems to dissipate with time. I don't believe the difference is gon...
White Album, when's your last listen?
Although Abbey Road gets my vote as the best album side of all time, The White album is my favorite Beatles album. Probably because the music is so diverse and there is so much of it. Yes there are a lesser quality Beatles' songs on The White albu...
Good, cheap, loud speakers
A pair of old Polk Audio monitors. My dad found a pair of Polk Audio monitors, don't recall the model number, at a garage sale dirt cheap. They are very sturdy looking and sound very good for the price. Great speakers for the garage.
I Have 100K for Speakers?
I read the referenced post this morning and had the same reaction Musicslug had. When he sells his $100k speakers a fellow Agoner will get a bargain. The buyer can then sells his $50k speakers at a cut rate price. This can continue until they get ...
downsize from ARC CD3 MKII to $1500 CDP happily?
First off, sorry to hear of your unfortunate economic situation. If Jaybo's advice doesn't work for you, Dpac996's advice is pretty good. I haven't heard the ARC CD3 but I'm listening to the OPPO 980HD through the Bel Canto DAC2 as I type this. Bi...
Best Small budget speakers for girlfriend
If you don't take Jaybo's excellent advice look at a pair of Usher S-520s. As well as sounding wonderful for the price with plenty of bass, they come in some awesome finishes. I have a pair in a bright yellow. I love the color, so do my three daug...
Used CD player for 200-300
How about this?I owned one for a while. Inside it looks just like the Music Hall player. To be honest though I preferred the NAD C-541i. My NAD worked flawlessly for the two years I owned it. Good luck.
