Speakers with high WAF?
Launche, you have a dirty mind. But in this case you are correct; the Thiel is a tad phallic.
subs and small room
Don't know your price point but I use a small Velodyne SPL800 in a small dedicated room. It took some experimentation but after I realized the sub wasn't going in the corner things got a lot easier. I don't know how people get their subs to sound ...
Best integrates for Totem Model-1
I drove a pair of the Model Ones with a Portal Panache. The combination was a terrific match. Yeah the Portal is solid state but it is as warm and satisfying as ss gets.
Anyone else like Nick Drake ?
If you haven't listened to Sufjan Stevens "Come On Feel The Illinoise" yet you really should. I seriously put this cd on every day for nearly three weeks. It will give you goose bumps and that doesn't happen as often as it used to.
My favorite Steely Dan song has to be...
"Throw Back The Little Ones." Is there a more perfect album than Pretzel Logic? I remember buying that album when it was released and thinking it was the perfect pop album. Pop may not be the correct word but the rightness of the sound is amazing.
Need some $500 & under Amp recommendations
I'll make a recommendation as you have researched the contenders. Buy the one you like used and if it isn't what you like you can sell it with little risk. I've done this more times than I care to admit. Not really very risky when buying from memb...
Need some $500 & under Amp recommendations
It is simpler to hook the sub to an extra set of pre outs, which the 352 has and the 325 lacks. Check this out http://nadelectronics.com/products/hifi-amplifiers for complete info. They have a nice feature that lets you look at the back of each am...
Need some $500 & under Amp recommendations
I used a NAD C352 for a short time while waiting for an amp and was thrilled with it's performance. I purchased it over the C325BEE because it has an extra pre out for use with a subwoofer. Although you may not need a sub now, it's nice to know yo...
Speakers with high WAF?
The only speakers my wife ever said weren't "obtrusive" were speakers with a sloped baffle such as Thiels and Meadowlark Audio. First it was a small pair of Thiel 1.5s that she approved of and later a pair of Meadowlark Kestrel Hot Rods. It helped...
Is it best to leave gear on or to shut it off?
Turn it off and save electricity. If it's vintage gear I'm thinking you're not listening for ultra hi fidelity so a little warm up time won't bother you.My two cents.
Anyone else like Nick Drake ?
Jeff Buckley's "Grace." Want to get in on this for future purchases.
Are tiny subwoofers worthwhile?
I use a Velodyne SPL800II in a small room with good results. To alleviate what I considered a sluggish output I moved the sub out into the room centered between and even with the speakers. The sub adds just the right amount of bottom, filling in r...
Stereo Sanctuaries?
That was a very strange read. It reminded me of a second year college essay class paper. Covered all the bases but not very satisfying.I'm sitting in my own sanctuary listening to Ani Difranco as I type this. Nothing quite like having your own spa...
Willie Nelson, the star who wasn't supposed to be
I like Teatro for both the music and sonics. Stardust is very nice also, Willie in his somber/sober mood. I'm going to check out "Across the Borderline."
Drive Bel Canto, Marsh amp with OPPO 970?
Does the OPPO have a variable line out? I'm using the variable out form a Linn Genki into a Bel Canto S-300. It works fine. If the OPPO has a variable out it should be fine also. The Bel Canto is a superb amp.
