Build my own speakers?
Check out the system of member 240zracer. He has a pair of the best looking DIY speakers I've seen. They don't look homemade.
A Bass Question
My room is similar in size to Athipaul's and my sub also only switches on when bass signal is present. Although with mine once it's on it rarely goes off while music is present; it has a ten minute minimum. I feel like I'm hearing good clean bass ...
A Bass Question
Rlawry, my speakers are producing 0 Hz right now.Help me out here please. What happens when that 20 Hz is produced? Does it stop coming out of the speaker when the leading edge bumps into the wall?
What's your favorite remake of a song
Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" on Grace. This song absolutely blew me away the first time I heard it and it's not even the best song on the album.Three great cover albums are:Annie Lennox -- Medusak.d. lang -- Hymns From The 49th Parallel ...
Why is the industry so lame?
Mrtennis, following your logic that "technical progression=sonic degradation," does my great grandfathers old Victrola blow away today's systems? Does my 1972 Ford Pinto better my Honda Civic? etc. etc.
Why is the industry so lame?
You just nailed the reason I haven't purchased a ipod (and I'm the only one in my family without one). It's easier for me to find what I want to listen to by "flipping through" the cds. Easier to find because I usually don't know what I want to li...
How to make sound less detailed with warmth?
I wonder how many of the responders recommending cable changes have owned the small Thiels. My first "hi-end" speakers were a pair of Thiel 1.5s. I was immediately struck by and in love with their detail and clarity. After a few months I couldn't ...
vibration and resonance
I too would like to know what you built in order to provide advice. For Schipo, what are the dimensions between the legs of the lack tables? Could they be stacked? Maybe place a piece of granite on top? Might try these myself. At the cost there's l...
Pin Schematic For DIY HDMI Cables?
Don't know about their HDMI offering but I have ordered more than once from Bluejeanscable. My experience is this, fantastic service and nice products at reasonable prices. At the price you mention the BJC seems worth a try.
External DAC for Sony SCD-777ES
You've done quite a bit of trading here so why not try some of the popular dacs in your price range and see what you like. As you prefer used you know you can do this with little $ worry. There are numerous options in your price range but if I wer...
The best speaker on the used market for $1000.00
I agree with Schipo. Experimentation is the only way to know which is best for your situation. Having said that, I have purchased and sold numerous speakers during my search. My favorite to this date is the Revel M20. At the used prices for them n...
Room Treatments - Where to learn more?
There is some basic info here http://www.decware.com/newsite/mainmenu.htm I used Auralex foam products http://www.auralex.com/in a dedicated room but they may not fit your decor. I wouldn't use them in a living area.
What do you do when you listen to music?
Listen to at least one or two cds on most nights. Sometimes the laptop is open but it usually gets closed at some point as the music takes control. The laptop is a bad habit. Before I bought this laptop I would just listen although not as regularl...
Pin Schematic For DIY HDMI Cables?
I meant no disrespect but your original post lead me to believe you were a novice DIYer Also, I'm not a tech-guy, so "KISS!" (Keep It Simple, Stupid!) The level of a budding neophyte videophile should do (i.e., the level of a clever twelve year ol...
Pin Schematic For DIY HDMI Cables?
If you are talking about fabricating your own cables I would recommend against it. The wire and connection surface in modern computer/video cables is tiny and would be extremely difficult to construct. Just by a quality cable.
